Summary: Ensures that empty tables are ready to receive new guests. When a party departs, bussers remove dirty dishes, sanitize the table, clean the seats and if necessary, sweep or vacuum the surrounding floor. The Other duties of this multifaceted position is backing up the bartenders and ensuring they have what they need to execute their essential roles in the guests social experience. Without a competent bar backer, the bartenders will run out of stock and glassware.
Duties and Responsibilities: Primary duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Bar backs are responsible for an opening or closing liquor inventory or helping the bartender in this capacity. A bar backers job is to facilitate the bartender(s).
- Dont require much direction or need to be told or asked to get something. They are constantly aware of whats on hand in the bar and whats needed and get items before a bartender has time to run out.
- Must possess a sense of timing, take pride in personal appearance; possess dedication to serving people.
- Helps to complete assigned pre-work to stock and set up stations as necessary.
General:
- Yield guest right of way.
- Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
- Show flexibility in terms of your schedule to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the restaurant as directed by the restaurant manager or immediate supervisor.

Dining Room:
- Obtain service area assignments at the beginning of each shift.
- Clear tables after guests leave. Take tableware to dish room and place silverware, dishes, glassware, etc. in appropriate areas for washing.
- Between settings promptly clean table tops, chairs and booths. Check floor and clean as required. Reset and arrange tabletop to proper specifications.
- Inspect restrooms every 15 minutes and clean as needed.
- Respond appropriately to guest requests. Communicate guest requests to server immediately.
- Communicate with server and hostess to ensure efficient seating, table utilization and customer service.
- Assist server as needed with food delivery, especially with large parties and during peak periods.
Bar:
- Ensure there is always enough back up liquor.
- Run to the storage area to get alcohol if any bartender runs out.
- Change kegs when required.
- Pick up empty glasses and bottles from the tables and outside the bar, wipe down tables and bar tops.
- Re-stock garnishes and mixes.
- Always ensure there is enough clean glassware.
- Re-stock ice when needed.
- Maintain clean towels in each bartenders station.
- Maintain Stocked Bar with polished glassware, ice, liquor, beer, and wine.
- Remove and discard Trash receptacles from the bar; clean sanitize, reline and replace.
- Make sure that everything is at the bar and that there are enough backups for the shift. Always rotate the products.
- Wipe the bar top constantly.
- Help the bartender on anything that he/she needs.
- Place dirty towels in their appropriate location.
- Make sure that the beer cooler is clean and organized.
- Always "Close to Open." This means to leave everything ready for the next day.
