A. Overall Purpose Of The Job
The Behavioral Health Specialist is responsible for managing individuals with medical and behavioral health problems within the primary care setting. This role may also involve developing and implementing wellness programs to support residents and students in the area.
B. Key Responsibilities
- Social Services and Behavioral Health: Provide social services, behavioral health, and addiction medicine services.
- Collaboration with Primary Care Providers: Work directly with primary health care providers to identify and treat mental disorders and psychosocial difficulties, including detecting at-risk patients and preventing further harm.
- Consultative Services: Provide consultative services to patients referred by primary care providers and report on clinical status.
- Patient Care Plans: Determine patient care plans in collaboration with the primary care team.
- Record Maintenance: Maintain accurate patient records, including tracking treatment plans.
- Education: Educate the primary care team on mood disorders (such as depression and anxiety) and provide tools and techniques for managing these disorders, including anger management and marital and family issues.
- Patient and Staff Education: Teach patients, families, and staff about prevention methods and treatment options.
- Coping Strategies: Provide recommendations for coping strategies to help workforce members reduce the stress of living OCONUS (Outside Continental United States).
- Program Monitoring: Monitor the site’s behavioral health program, identify problems related to patient services, and make recommendations for improvement.
- Administrative Duties: Utilize various computer software to log patient information, access emails, and manage calendars.
- Office Participation: Actively participate in office activities, including meetings and task force groups, to improve procedural processes, obtain approvals, and stay informed about new developments and policy requirements.
- Mass Casualty Exercises: Actively participate in Mass Casualty exercises and events.
- Other Duties: Perform other duties as assigned.
C. Job Profile
Required Skills and Knowledge:
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience in short-term, solution-focused counseling with individuals, children, families, and couples.
- Minimum of one (1) year of experience working with psychotherapy groups is preferred.
- Experience with Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook).
Experience Preferred:
- Experience on a military site, working as a government subcontractor or prime contractor.
Education Required:
- Current and unrestricted license (LPC, LMFT, LMHC, LISW, LCSW, or similar) or authorizing document from any US State, District of Columbia, or US Territory to provide healthcare within the scope of practice.
- Must hold a Master’s degree in Psychology, Counseling, or Social Work.
- Must hold a valid state license as an LPC, LMFT, LMHC, LISW, LCSW, or similar behavioral health license.
- Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Other Special Qualifications:
- Common Access Card (CAC) or ability to obtain one.
- Must be able to read, write, and speak English to effectively communicate.
- US Department of State (DOS) clearance or the ability to obtain one is required.
- Must be able to relocate to Iraq.
- A valid passport is required and must be maintained during your stay in Iraq.
Job Types: Full-time, Contract
Pay: $45.85 - $55.00 per hour
