Job Summary: The Director of Nursing's primary function is to supervise nursing practices, policies, and staff regarding resident care. In addition, this position is responsible for maintaining compliance with medical documentation and regulations for assisted living and respite stays.
Essential Functions / Duties:
- Interview and select candidates for nursing staff positions, as needed or directed; recommend the number and level of personnel to be employed to the Apartment Director.
- Conduct orientation for nursing staff; develop training/competency and orientation program for all nursing staff.
- Counsel supervised nursing staff and recommend disciplinary action to the Apartment Director; participate in the employee evaluation process by providing information on the clinical performance of nursing staff to the Apartment Director.
- Provide clinical supervision to all nursing staff providing direct resident care; instruct staff in proper, preventative safety measures and use of adaptive equipment to meet the needs of each resident.
- Cover on-call as scheduled with ADON and Staffing/Scheduling Coordinator.
- Provide treatments, dressings changes, injections (including flu, B-12, insulin) and blood glucose monitoring.
- Conduct daily clinic/nurse visits – this includes blood pressure checks, giving and reading results of TB skin tests as well as checking on those with headaches, stomach aches, sore throats, etc.; contact physician as needed and initiate all orders.
- Conduct assessments on prospective Assisted Living, Home Health, or Respite stay residents; coordinate assessment with Marketing Associate.
- Conduct full assessments on current residents due to falls and other changes in resident's health; pre-screening; individual evaluation plan; resident care assessments.
- Review MARs as needed for accuracy as it pertains to the resident receiving medication administration or medication set-up; correct errors.
- Interpret policies and procedures to staff, residents, families, and physicians.
- Assess resident equipment and supply needs within the unit and make recommendations to the Apartment Director.
- Conduct admissions, discharges or transfers into Assisted Living; this requires coordination with other departments, physicians, and ancillary service providers (i.e. pharmacies, families, and discharging facility); follow-up with staff to insure tasks are completed; obtain physician's orders and any revisions for all treatments needed.
- Participate in facility education programs and coordinate staff activities with the Apartment Director.
- Attend staff meetings, in‑service classes, and committee meetings as assigned.
- Conduct staff meetings with all shifts for purposes of planning, coordinating, and implementing nursing service policies and procedures.
- Supervise response to resident's call for assistance.
- Listen to resident, family, or physician concerns and initiate corrective action and/or report concerns to Apartment Director.
Education and Experiences: Prior experience in Assisted Living is preferred, but not a requirement of the position. It is preferred this position be an RN (Registered Nurse) in the State of Kansas. Supervisory experience is required.
