Assistant Store Manager
Summary
The Assistant Store Manager is accountable along with the Store Manager for the successful operation of a store ensuring maximum sales and profitability through merchandise, inventory, expense control, managing operating costs, personnel management and customer service.
Essential Functions

1. Promotes a Safety First workplace culture.
2. Ensures that each customer receives outstanding customer service by providing a customer friendly environment which includes greeting and acknowledging every customer, maintaining outstanding standards, solid product knowledge and all other components of customer service.
3. Controls shrinkage, expenses and payroll.
4. Creates weekly employee schedule.
5. Manages employee time and attendance, including time clocks, timekeeping, rest and meal periods, and requests for time off.
6. Ensures that all HR and payroll documentation, such as new hires, terminations, and other status changes are reported accurate and timely to the Human Resources & Payroll Department.
7. Ensures appropriate merchandise stock levels, merchandise displays and presentations; signing, and assortment in all departments; ensures sales floor is adequately stocked.
8. Comparison shops and reports results; shares information with Operations Manager and makes appropriate price adjustments.
9. Reviews department and store trends and recommends and initiates changes for maximizing goals and objectives.
10. Ensures compliance with all policies and procedures through regular store management and staff meetings, store walk-through and audits, etc.
11. Keeps immediate superior promptly and fully formed of all problems or unusual matters of significance and takes prompt corrective action where necessary or suggests alternative courses of action which may be taken.
12. Trains, develops and monitors development for all store personnel.

Supervisory Responsibilities
This position manages the Front-End Supervisor and Backroom Supervisor positions and is responsible for the performance, management, and hiring of the employees in these positions.
Work Environment
This job operates in a retail environment with merchandise displays and items available for purchase in inventory. The employee routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work will vary. Early evenings and weekends required.
Required Education and Experience
1. High school diploma or high school equivalency certificate, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
2. Two or more years of related experience in retail industry, preferably in a thrift/discount store.
3. One or more years in supervisory or managerial role in retail industry, preferably in a thrift/discount store.
