The primary functions and responsibilities of this position are as follows: (Additional duties may be added as necessary to meet the needs of the facility)
- Assure that work/cleaning schedules are followed as closely as practical.
- Attend departmental and staff in-service educational classes, on-the-job training programs, etc. as scheduled.
- Follow laundry procedures in accordance to all applicable state and federal laws and facility policies.
- Assure that established infection control and universal precautions practices are maintained when performing laundry procedure.
- Tasks assigned to this position involve potential and/or direct exposure to blood/body fluids. Precautions should always be utilized.
- Assure that an adequate supply of laundry/linen supplies are maintained in the laundry/linen closets to meet the daily needs of the residents.
- Report all unsafe/hazardous conditions, defective equipment, etc. to supervisor immediately.
- Properly use and care for laundry equipment.
- Clean work area and equipment as necessary and as directed.
- Collect, sort soiled laundry, linen, garments, etc. and place in appropriate containers or assigned area.
- Fold, hang, and distribute clean laundry, linen, garments to residents daily as instructed.
- Discard waste/trash in to proper containers and reline trash receptacles with plastic liner.
- Discard infectious waste into appropriate containers.
- Identify and report garments or linens in ill repair to supervisor.
- Turn in all found articles to supervisors
- Follow Resident’s Rights policies at all times.
- Must remain familiar with Chemical Hazard Communication Program and Safety Data Sheets.
- Must be able to relate to and work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and at times hostile people with in the facility.
- Must be able to lift, push, and move equipment, supplies, etc., in excess of 50 lbs.
- Must be able to assist in evacuation of residents.
- Demonstrate competence in use of proper body mechanics in both upper body and lower body and personal protective equipment such as gloves, gown, face shield, and back support belt.
- Accept assigned duties in a cooperative manner.
- Assume accountability for data contained in the employee’s handbook.
