Summary:
Under the general supervision of the Emergency Medicine (EM) Data Team Director this position provides database management and analysis of data from multiple research projects and grants. The data coordinator serves as the lead for data analysis and management efforts on assigned research projects. This role includes performing complex analysis such as longitudinal methods handling missing data causal approaches predictive analytics data mining techniques data-driven prediction algorithms and functional data analysis. The data coordinator is required to document maintain and ensure the confidentiality and integrity of the data. In this role the data coordinator provides a variety of reports summarizing research data cleaning and organizing data to facilitate entry into computer. The data coordinator performs a limited amount of data entry and accesses information as requested to produce computer-assisted statistical analyses and other summary reports and reviews results to detect and correct data errors. The data coordinator may also be responsible for developing web-based surveys using relevant applications (such as REDCap and Qualtrics) and should be able to recommend changes to existing tools to improve the quality of data analysis.
Responsibilities:
In collaboration with the data analysis team the data coordinator determines the specifics of the research project in order to support the data needs. This includes but not limited to: advising on research design sample size estimation and handling of missing data advising on potential randomization approaches assisting in the development of data collection tools and data analysis plans that are most appropriate to test study related research questions. The data coordinator also provides input to the establishment of timelines to meet and support research goals and grant requirements. The data coordinator is expected to attend all scheduled data team meetings and those requested by ongoing projects.
The data coordinator is also required to write statistical code/syntax using computer and software compatible language to reformat information create new files and conduct analysis. Ensures accuracy of data entry activities correcting errors by deleting and entering corrections and/or additions to the data as necessary.
The data coordinator maintains quality assurance confidentiality and security of data through the use of field ranges default values skip patterns and error checking. Implements and monitors procedures to ensure accuracy and integrity of data. Implements and monitors data entry methods and data storage procedures to maintain subject/data confidentiality within Federal Lifespan and department guidelines. Through user and project team feedback and program development provides enhancements to ensure optimal operation of database quality of data and user productivity.
Prepares data set for descriptive and inferential statistical analysis. Performs all levels of data processing and analysis utilizing appropriate software (e.g. R SAS Stata Python).
In collaboration with the data analysis team other EM research faculty or a study PI provide ongoing feedback of results of statistical analysis.
Be able to present results of statistical analysis in written report using informative data visualization which may include manuscript preparation for submission to peer reviewed journal abstract submission for academic conferences or data presentation to groups of stakeholders.

BASIC REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE:
Basic principles of research design. Experience in creating and maintaining emailed surveys cross-sectional studies longitudinal studies randomization branching logic calculated fields and user permissions management. Experience with computerized statistical analyses (e.g. R SAS Stata Python). Competent in database and spreadsheet software applications. Knowledge of statistical analysis.
Masters-level degree in Biostatistics Epidemiology Public Health (with statistical analysis concentration) Statistics Mathematics Quantitative Methodology Computer Science or related field or comparable experience required.
Strong organizational skills to gather research information format appropriately to facilitate data entry and to prepare and maintain records and reports. Knowledge of and ability to operate microcomputer or minicomputer to enter display store and retrieve information and to perform computer-assisted statistical analyses. Analytical skills to assess completeness quality and acceptability of data.
Interpersonal skills to effectively interact with Hospital professionals research support staff and trainees to gather and clarify research data.
EXPERIENCE:
Two years of data management experience. Exposure to data analysis data management and documentation preferably in a research or academic environment. Experience integrating data from multiple sources/systems.
Experience in high level manipulation of complex relational databases preferably in academic medical or pharmaceutical research environment. Emphasis on human-subjects research with experience assisting to prepare and comply with HIPAA guidelines
INDEPENDENT ACTION:
Performs independently within the scope of the clinical research study. Generally refers problems lacking clear precedent to Principal Investigator or Project Director.
