Pay Range: $16.66 - $18.00

Reports directly to: Director of Medical Records
A Medical Records Assistant, or Health Information Clerk, is responsible for managing patients’ health records and history. Their main duties include helping conduct audits, gathering and filing patient information and processing discharge papers.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Preparing patient charts and gathering information and documents from patients
- Ensuring that the medical records are organized, accurate and complete
- Creating digital copies of paperwork and storing the records electronically
- Filing the paperwork and reports of inpatients quickly and accurately
- Safeguarding patient records and ensuring that everyone complies with the HIPAA standards
- Transferring data into the facility’s main system database
- Processing the records for admitting and discharging patients
- Preparing invoices
EDUCATIONAL:
- Must possess , as a minimum, a high school diploma
EXPERIENCE:
- 1 year of experience as Medical Record Assistant
- 1 year of experience in quantitative medical record review
- 1 year of experience in data entry
- Interest in working with geriatric population or Skilled Nursing Facility
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- Must have knowledge of medical terminology, knowledge of office practices, and accuracy
- Must be able to work systematically and provide good follow through without continuous supervision and guidance
- Must be able to type a minimum of 35 words per minute, use dictation equipment, and have a working knowledge of medical terminology
- On-the-job training provided in medical records procedures
- Strong data entry skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Advanced organization skills
- Attention to detail to ensure accuracy
- Familiarity with medical terminology
- Basic computer skills to scan, organize and access electronic health records
- Good time management skills
- Excellent problem-solving skills
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Physical requirements of bending, squatting, twisting, stair climbing, walking, sitting, standing, lifting, and carrying items up to 35 lbs.
- Ability to use equipment and techniques to safely assist patients to transfer, move in and out of bed and ambulate.
