Job Description:
Raritan Valley Community College's Arts & Design Department is seeking a qualified adjunct instructor to teach 3D Design within the Visual Arts Program. The successful candidate will have a deep understanding of contemporary 3D Design practices, a strong portfolio of both professional and student work, and a commitment to fostering creativity and critical thinking skills among students. In addition to teaching during scheduled class time, other job requirements will include preparing course materials, providing instruction and addressing student concerns via CANVAS and/or e-mail outside of class time, and assessing student work throughout the semester.
Essential Duties:
Teach 3D Design. This 4-hour course serves as an introduction to the history and practices of 3D Design with primary importance on teaching the elements and principles of design. Through hands-on, project-based learning, students will solve various design problems through concept development, ideation, iteration and professionally presented final solutions. Students will work with the various tools and machinery in the shop including 3D printers, woodworking tools, hand tools, etc.
Provide individual and group critiques to students, offering constructive feedback and guidance to enhance their understanding and application of the design process while building their hard and soft skills as required across a variety of design fields.
Remain current on trends and developments in contemporary design and sculpture, the marketplace, and pedagogy as it relates to teaching 3D Design at the college level.
Collaborate with colleagues in the Arts & Design Department to contribute to the overall advancement of the program, including participation in the biennial Faculty Exhibition and annual Student Art Exhibition.
Provide academic advice and support to students, including assistance with portfolio development, transfer opportunities and applications, exhibition opportunities, and career guidance.
Job Requirements:
A Master of Fine Arts (MFA) degree in a related field (or equivalent professional experience) is required.
Minimum of two years of college-level teaching experience with a record of effective instruction and student engagement.
Mastery in shop practices and problem solving as it relates to making practices.
Demonstrate expertise in an area related to 3D design such as sculpture or industrial design, with a strong portfolio showcasing technical proficiency and professional work.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to effectively connect with a diverse student population.
Commitment to teaching excellence and student success.
