General Summary
The mechanic’s position is responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, and performing preventative maintenance on all tractors and trailers within the company’s fleet. Repairs shall be made safely, cost-effectively, and promptly.
Responsibilities
1. Must be able to perform minor and major repairs or troubleshooting for tractors and trailers.
2. Maintain a clean and safe working environment.
3. Maintain accurate computer records, including time and parts for specific work order tasks.
4. Comply with established company safety and maintenance operating procedures.
5. Perform all other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Key Competencies
1. Must have thorough knowledge and experience with, but not limited to, Civacon systems, Cummins engines, WABCO ABS, electrical systems, and air brake systems.
2. Must have basic typing and writing skills.
3. Must be able to prioritize job tasks while working independently.
4. Ability to manage a small parts inventory in a shop and service truck accounting for all items used.
Working Conditions
1. Regular and punctual attendance is an essential function of this position.
2. Must travel to trailers or tractors needing repair within the mechanic's area of responsibility.
3. Must be available to work before or after regularly scheduled work hours as needed.
Physical Demands
1. The employee frequently uses various hand tools throughout the day to perform his/her mechanical duties.
2. The employee may frequently be required to lift equipment or parts. Most of the parts and equipment mechanics handle less than 50 lbs.
3. Occasionally, the employee must lift a tire/rim or part over 100 lbs. The employee should seek help or use mechanical means to safely perform these types of lifts.
4. Must climb a ladder onto the top of fuel trailers and safely climb in and out of a tractor.
Mechanic Position Job Requirements
1. Perform and assist in the performance of general mechanical duties
2. Perform troubleshooting with or without diagnostic software
3. Communicate well with dispatch, Terminal Manager, and Maintenance Manager to plan and schedule needed repairs
4. Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor
4. Must have own hand tools and be willing to purchase tools as needed to perform job function
