Are you passionate about guiding and helping students prepare for their future? Join RTC as an Workforce Program Academic / Career Counselor. A member of a dynamic and fast paced student-facing department, this position provides high-touch academic and career counseling to students from a variety of cultural, ethnic, and socio-economic backgrounds. Reporting directly to the Dean of Student Success in partnership with the Executive Director of Workforce Education & Grants, this position requires familiarity with establishing and maintaining eligibility for workforce funding and federal financial aid to students. This position focuses on services to Worker Retraining, Opportunity Grant, WorkFirst and BFET students; unemployed individuals needing to upgrade skills or train in a new career, displaced homemakers, veterans and low-income individuals. Other professional responsibilities include recruiting; coordinating services with government agencies and community-based organizations; consulting with faculty, staff, and administrators on issues related to student access and success.
This full-time, non-tenure track faculty (soft funded) position is contracted for a maximum of 206 days per fiscal year. This position is represented by the Renton Federation of Teachers (RFT) Employees Association. This position is scheduled to begin Fall Quarter 2024. The salary for this position is $91,750 -$109,578 based on a 12-month contract. Please see Terms of Employment for more information on pay and stipends. Bachelor’s degree with 3 years of experience in higher education, college student personnel administration, student development or related area.
Demonstrated understanding of and experience with Washington state workforce systems (including colleges, agencies, and community-based organizations).
Ability to maintain confidentiality, think critically and exercise independent judgment is required.
Proficiency with Microsoft Suite. Previous success learning and using new computer software programs / platforms and databases.
Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively as part of a team.
Ability to represent the college in a positive and professional manner while using tact, discretion, and courtesy
Demonstrated attention to detail required as well as previous experience maintaining accurate records, managing multiple tasks, planning and organizing work in order to meet changing priorities and deadlines.
PREFFERED QUALIFICATIONS:

Master's and five years professional academic advising experience and educational planning experience with a multi-cultural adult population, preferably in a community or technical college setting, applying student development theory and strategies

Teaching and/or experience giving presentations at the college level with specific knowledge and understanding of the philosophy of technical college education

Direct experience working with Workforce Education programs and funding systems (ie. eJAS).

Ability to speak a regionally top spoken language other than English is preferred (Spanish, Vietnamese, Russian, Somali, Chinese).
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Working hours are generally aligned to business hours, Monday – Friday. Occasional evening and weekend work is required. Work is mostly sedentary in nature, performed in an office environment. Frequent use of a computer and exposure to terminal screens is required. Work and meetings may take place across campus. May drive/travel to trainings, conferences, and/or college events. This is mostly an in-person/on-campus position; remote work may occur as business permits.
