Role Introduction
The TNU Assistant Manager works directly with the manager to integrate the Slingshot culture within our campus store and mailroom. While we are a “third party” entity, our goal is to engage the campus from within. Each team member has a defined role, but collaboration is an integral part of who we are. We often partner with another team member or campus representative to create unique solutions. We are looking for an assistant manager who desires to engage the TNU campus community while furthering the culture and values of both Slingshot and the institution.
We are seeking an individual who places a high value on teamwork, innovation, and character development. The Campus Store Assistant Manager role helps integrate these values within the campus store and mailroom.
Role Function
· Creating a welcoming environment and builds rapport in the store/mailroom and supports TNU students, parents, staff and faculty
· Managing, training and assisting day-to-day mail and store operations, including operating and troubleshooting mail-related services, equipment and programs
· Serves customers through point-of-sale operations, phone calls, and online general merchandise sales and shipping
· Maintaining store stock and appearance through creative displays and merchandising
· Assists with course material processes, including receiving, shipping, order fulfillment and customer service
· Performs best cash management practices and properly trains the store/mailroom team (i.e. opening and closing registers, etc)
· Performs other duties as assigned
Preferred Skills/Qualifications
· Creating a welcoming environment and builds rapport in the store/mailroom and around campus
· Schedule flexibility during peak seasons
· Ability to lift 50 pounds
· Ability to carry, shelve, bend and stretch in the performance of bookstore/mailroom operations as well as stand for long periods of time
· A high school diploma or equivalent
· Experience in retail, mail services or customer service preferred
· Ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with students, faculty, staff and general customers
· Computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and general internet usage including social media
· Detail-oriented with the ability to prioritize, self-start and work independently
As a member of the management team, you will be responsible for:
· Setting a positive tone and being an example of service, hard work, and creative problem-solving
· Providing direction to the store team, including managing the staff schedule, and performing the duties of a store manager in their absence
· Understanding the unique specifics of the institution, without compromising our core values of character, relationship, and innovation.
The TNU campus store includes textbook sales, gift and merchandise sales, as well as campus mail operations. You may be asked to fill a role or oversee any of these areas as needed.
