Job Description
As a technical expert in industrial automation and packaging equipment, the Field Service Engineer plays a crucial role in ensuring our customers' processing and packaging machinery operate at peak performance. This position requires a proactive, positive attitude and involves regular travel to various customer sites.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Industrial Automation Equipment Integration & Installation (40%)
- Participates in machinery integration and installation activities at company headquarters and at customer locations
- Executes control wiring additions and changes in automated systems, including adding relays, sensors, or other controls components to machinery and systems.
- Assist in technical activities with suppliers & engineering team
- Assembly and build of electromechanical systems and machines
- Participate in Factory Acceptance Testing and installation of new equipment as needed
- Provide technical recommendations on projects
- Define schedules based on projects and experience’ set tasks and priorities for self and others
- Contribute to large scale projects, such as technical investigation, technical solution, manufacturing study, etc.
- Coach and mentor team members regarding troubleshooting or technical decisions
- Participate and make recommendations regarding hiring decisions technical personnel onto the team
- Fix-break troubleshooting on down equipment. (Replacement of critical parts,
Industrial Equipment Servicing and Troubleshooting (60%) – Utilizing a high level of technical knowledge and practice, this position performs regular maintenance on customer equipment. As well as the following:
- Travel to customer locations on service calls, interacting with customers to troubleshoot, maintain, and repair their equipment. (Disassembly and reassembly of machinery, overhaul gearboxes, replace bearings, replace sensors, etc.)
- Read & interpret mechanical assembly drawings, layout drawings, electrical schematics and bills of materials.
- Perform preventative maintenance activities on customer equipment.
- Fix-break troubleshooting on down equipment. (Replacement of critical parts, PCB’s, Timing belts, conveyor motors, etc.)
- Interpret electrical schematics in order to repair electrical componentry or wiring.
- Fabrication of broken or worn components where needed
- Look for opportunities in equipment operation, identify potential machine failures and problems that may impact customer equipment
- Identification of automation opportunities at customer sites, communication of these opportunities to manager and team members
- Begin to foster and manage customer relations through excellent customer service and communication
- Work with scheduling team to identify proper amount of time required for service calls, as well as relevant
- Completion of service reports and logging of hours, components, etc. used during service calls.
- Provide guidance to customer staff on equipment resolution as needed.
- Ensure overall customer satisfaction.
Required Education
- High school diploma or GED required
- 5 years of industrial mechanical and electrical maintenance experience.
Preferred experience and education
- Two-year technical or trade school degree. In Electronics, Engineering, Electrical, or equivalent.
- 30 credit hours of machine technology courses with a 3.0 or greater GPA or equivalent experience.
- 5,000 hours of experience refurbishing, repairing, and troubleshooting manufacturing, processing, or packaging equipment.
- Technical certifications (Electrical, robotics, specific machines maintenance)

Availability requirements
- Available to travel either by car or by air within the northwest area as required by job, including overnight visits at various times.
- Ability to work on site for shop work when needed.
