Reports To: Head of Neurology Division / Neurovascular Surgery Service
Overview:
Jamaica Hospital Medical Center and Flushing Hospital Medical Center are integral parts of our expanding Neuroscience program. We are actively seeking Advanced Practice Providers (Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants) to deliver exceptional care to critically ill patients within our Neurology/Stroke service. This vital role covers a broad spectrum of conditions, including intracerebral hemorrhages, ischemic strokes, and other acute neurosurgical and neurological emergencies.
The successful candidate will become a key member of a multidisciplinary team that includes neurologists, neurointensivists, neurosurgeons, neurointerventionalists, and other critical care professionals, all committed to providing superior neurocritical care. While previous experience in neurology is valued, it is not mandatory; comprehensive training, including ENLS certification and FCCS, will be provided. New graduates are welcome and encouraged to apply.
Responsibilities:
· Serve as a critical link in the implementation of policies and procedures to ensure efficient, high-quality care and compliance with all regulations.
· Actively collaborate with related departments, fostering interdisciplinary cooperation.
· Undertake the comprehensive duties of an Advanced Clinical Practitioner (ACP), managing complex and technical neurocritical care cases.
· Stay abreast of current healthcare legislation and adapt practice areas accordingly.
· Participate in the development and implementation of patient-specific clinical care plans during multidisciplinary rounds.
· Conduct and interpret neurologic exams, manage medical care autonomously, and perform bedside procedures within scope.
· Facilitate family meetings, providing education and support to patients and caregivers.
· Engage in the creation of policies, procedures, and quality improvement initiatives for the Neurocritical unit/service.
· Commit to academic and professional development, ensuring adherence to Joint Commission standards and promoting continuous improvement in patient safety and care quality.
Qualifications:
· Master’s Degree in a Nurse Practitioner Program or Physician Assistant Studies; National Board Certification required.
· Current New York State License to practice as an NP or PA; additional CNS certification in specialty areas preferred.
· BLS/ACLS certification; specialized certifications for neurocritical care procedures encouraged.
· 2 years of technical experience in neurology/neurosurgery/neurocritical care preferred; new graduates are welcome and will be provided with extensive training.
· Demonstrated strong work ethic, organizational skills, and computer proficiency.
· Effective communication skills, emotional intelligence, and adaptability to changing priorities.
