Totally Kids Specialty Healthcare is a small pediatric sub-acute hospital with 45 patients. We are the ONLY long-term care hospital dedicated entirely to children. Our residents' ages range from newborn to 21 years of age and we are dedicated to enriching the health and quality of life for our kids. We are always striving to meet the medical, developmental, social, psychological, and spiritual needs of our kids. We are looking for a skilled LVN (Licensed Vocational Nurse) to become a part of our facility's compassionate caregiving family. Each LVN has 4-6 residents per shift, based on resident needs. The LVN is a professional caregiver who’s responsible for a group of residents for a designated time frame and provides care to these residents via the nursing process, the environment, order treatments, and other health team members.
We can offer a full-time job with 12-hour shifts. Flexibility only works 3 days a week to be full-time.

Qualifications:
Education/Experience:
-
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
-
Current California Licensed Vocational Nurse license
-
Current basic CPR Card/Healthcare provider CPR or BLS.
Duties Summary:
-
Reassesses and collects age appropriate data on residents in an ongoing and systematic manner and reports any changes to the RN staff.

Performs skilled and palliative nursing interventions based on physicians orders and assignments by the RN.
-
Implements age-appropriate care in a knowledgeable, skillful, consistent and continuous manner as directed by the RN.

Demonstrates safe and accurate administration of medications/controlled substances taking into consideration weight/age as per physicians orders. Able to recognize signs/symptoms of adverse drug reaction of drugs administered.

Demonstrates competency in selected treatments, procedures and equipment, taking into consideration age specific needs, under the direction of the RN.

Evaluates residents learning needs, appropriate to age and/or level of understanding. Documents education in nursing notes and/or education flow sheet.

Performs documentation duties on unit and in residents records which are timely, accurate and concise, reporting any changes in condition to the RN. Documentation reflects the plan of care and activities of the resident per physicians order.

Demonstrates awareness and sensitivity to residents rights, as identified within the facility.

Functions with an awareness and application of safety issues as identified within the facility.

Performs efficiently in emergency patient situation following established protocols, remaining calm, informing appropriate persons and documenting events.

Demonstrates basic knowledge of medical/surgical interventions associated with residents disease state. Exhibits knowledge of technical skills required to implement safe nursing care and health promotion of the resident under the direction of the RN staff.

Demonstrates an awareness of self responsibility and accountability for own professional practice, staying within the LVN scope of practice. Notifies RN of any changes in residents condition.

Demonstrates self directed learning and participation in continuing education to meet own professional development.

Demonstrates awareness of legal issues and strives to manage situations in a reduced risk manner. Maintains current clinical records in accordance with the state and federal regulations, policies and procedures.

Demonstrates effective communication methods and skills, using lines of authority appropriately.

Formulates and uses effective working relationships with all health care team members, residents, and significant others.

Practices effective problem identification and resolution decision making skills as a method of sound decision making under the direction of RN staff.

Assist and accompany as needed with the transportation of patients to and from the activity room, other assigned activities or outings, and any scheduled or nonscheduled appointments, whether located in the facility or not.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to crouch /stoop as required.

Lifting Requirements: Must be capable of lifting or carrying objects that weigh up to 45 pounds.

Must be able to discern colors.
-
Physical skills necessary to operate all equipment: must be able to stand, reach in all directions, lift, and carry objects. Must have fine motor skills.

Must have 20/20 vision (correction devices allowed) and be able to appropriately read patient information, posted materials, and other written information.

Must hear (correctional devices allowed) and comprehend well enough to give and receive information for appropriate completion of duties.

Must be able to speak, read, write, and listen in English with a skill level essential for communication in a sub-acute facility.

Must have normal physical stamina.

Must be able to bend and twist.
-
Must have full use of both hands.
-
Must be able to walk intermittently, six to ten hours per shift.
-
Must be able to perform chest compressions and hand resuscitator ventilation during CPR.
Wage Range:
-
Starting at $27/h - $36/hr based on experience.

Night differential: Wage + $1/h.

Weekend differential: Wage + $1/h.

Level II staff (additional responsibilities) +$1-2/h.

Sign-on Bonus of $1,000.
Education provided: Opportunities for In-service hours and CEUs, as required for BVNPT license renewals. BLS and FIRE classes are provided by the facility and you get paid for your time. We offer frequent Skills training and assessment -to stay up-to-date with changes in healthcare.
