LEAD Charter School, NJ's first single sourced charter high school, seeks an exceptional teacher to join the efforts of a community that’s poised to transform equity through opportunity for young people in Newark. The mission of LEAD is to enable students ages 16-21 in grades 9-12 in Newark, NJ to master the essential skills crucial for success in postsecondary education, career, and community leadership within a global society. LEAD implements the Newark Opportunity Youth Network (NOYN) school model. Key design elements support the unique academic and nonacademic needs of students who have disengaged from traditional schooling. The innovative NOYN model re-engages young people via active participation in rigorous and relevant content, and standards-driven competency-based instruction aligned with emerging market demands. Through applied learning opportunities with partner organizations and corporations, LEAD prepares students to compete in the local economy and/or transition to postsecondary education.

Qualifications and Personal Characteristics
- Bachelor’s degree required
- Valid New Jersey school counselor certification, CE, or coursework that meets eligibility criteria
- A minimum of 3 years of urban counseling experience preferred
- Experience with Power School and Power Scheduler highly recommended
- Experience in strategic planning
- Experience managing assessment data and using it to drive programmatic decisions
- Demonstrated ability to multitask effectively and prioritize strategically
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Openness to feedback and a willingness to take personal responsibility for teacher and student success
- Attention to detail
Responsibilities
- Carries out and manages the review of and translation of student transcripts to rebuild and align academic history
- Coordinate student scheduling activities with the support of key stakeholders
- Manage all school-based college staff: college counseling, alumni coordination, community programs, etc.
- Execute and monitor systems that ensure an efficient and effective college application process.
- Monitor student credit accrual and work with instructional leaders to create educational opportunities that both hold students to a high academic standard and remedial programming as necessary. Ensuring validation of student academic progress.
- Codify and institutionalize all processes, procedures and supporting documents for the college application process.
- Provide one-on-one college counseling to a caseload of seniors through the admissions cycle including, but not limited to, creating a college list, writing and revising the personal statement, advising on financial aid, and making final matriculation decisions.
- Arrange strategic college representative visits to school during the application season and market and brand LEAD Charter to all national colleges and universities.
- Build and maintain relationships with colleges and universities to create partnerships benefiting both the school and students.
- Plan and host family planning sessions throughout the year that educate, motivate and activate parents of students.
- Coordinate and support local and state preparation and administration (ex: State Assessment, SAT, ACT, NWEA, Interim assessment).
- Work with and support efforts of the child study team (CST) to support students’ academic needs.
- Manage a caseload of young people towards post secondary educations and academic progress.
- Coordinating post secondary placement options with network-level staff and school leaders
- Collect, organize, and analyze student post secondary preparation data and inform school stakeholders of areas of growth and opportunities.
- Develop an alumni association
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Twelve-month employee.
EVALUATION
Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with the board's policy on evaluation.

Ten-month employee. Salary to be recommended by the school leader and approved by board.
