Residence Advocate
Saint Joseph's Home is part of the non-profit organization, the York Street Project, that serves homeless families. The facility operates 3 programs including an emergency shelter, a transitional housing program, and maternity group home. The total number of families served at one time is 25.
Resident Advocates are front-line staff who maintain the security and upkeep of the residential facility and its residents.
Applicant(s) MUST be able to work different schedules, have some form of flexibility to be on-call, able to work holidays, and able to work weekends.
Job Purpose
Resident Advocates are responsible for moderate housekeeping duties throughout the Home, monitoring the behavior of residents on all floors, managing emergencies, maintaining the security of the facility, and reporting any and all incidents to the Supervisor and/or designee.
Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to;
- Observe, log, and assist residents with any problems or difficulties
- Monitor building security which will require conducting regular patrols, monitoring cameras, ensuring that non-authorized areas remain locked, and opening doors to admit residents/visitors
- Perform housekeeping duties such as wipe and sanitize equipment & touchable surfaces, empty garbage, sweep and mop common areas, clean and maintain staff lounge, light laundry of rags and other cleaning supplies, empty smoke receptacle, and clean and prepare bedrooms for new placements
- Perform food management duties including handing out food items, rotate shelf food, assist with food deliveries, and serve dinner meals
- Perform administrative tasks such as answer phones, document relevant shift details in log book, occasionally make copies, write weekly menu on dry board, and document donations received
- Participate in trainings and program/project meetings
Education
High School Diploma or equivalent
Experience
Minimum of 2 years’ experience in the workforce
Experience performing relevant and related duties (preferred)
Personal
Maturity in judgement
Strong organizational, time management and communication skills
Exhibit strong sense of respect for the dignity and uniqueness of the residents we serve
Demonstrated ability to maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality of residents, staff, and all program/project matters
Training will be provided
