1. BRIEF STATEMENT IDENTIFYING BASIC NATURE OF POSITION:
Under the direct supervision of a Physician, Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant the float Medical Assistant performs basic clinic functions; assist provider staff, maintain examination and treatment rooms, medical equipment, supplies and instruments within an assigned clinical unit. This position will fulfill temporary medical assistant vacancies throughout the organization and provide additional assistance to clinical teams when necessary. This Medical Assistant must communicate effectively, adhere to ethical and legal standards of medical practice, recognize and respond to emergencies, and demonstrate professional characteristics.

3. EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
A. Formal education required:
High school graduate or equivalent.
Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant Program.
B. Experience/skills/ability required (number of years and type):
Demonstrate competency and skills to serve patients of all ages including neonate, infant, child, adolescent, adult and geriatric populations.
Must have good interpersonal skills.
Must be competent in phlebotomy and giving injections.
Must be familiar with performing EKG testing
Knowledge of basic medical terminology and human anatomy
Reliable transportation required
Able to operate standard front and back office equipment which may include photocopier, phone, fax machine, EKG machine, autoclave, centrifuge, glucometer, and oxygen.
Familiar with performing CLIA waved test including urine drug screens, urinalysis, pregnancy test, blood glucose, HbA1c
C. Additional knowledge, skills and abilities which is not required but which may be desirable:
Minimum of one (1) year work experience as a Medical Assistant preferred
Ability to perform instrument sterilization
Experience in OB-GYN preferred
Experience in Pediatrics preferred
Experience in administering immunizations and the Michigan Care Improvement Registry (MCIR) preferred
D. Specialized training and/or certification/license:
Current Medical Assistant Certification or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.

4. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conducts patient interviews, records medical history and confirms purpose of visit.
- Prepares patients for examination by performing prelimary test, taking vital signs, height, weight pulse ox, pain score, and recording them in the patient’s medical record.
- Maintain examination/treatment rooms, medical equipment, supplies and instruments.
- Assist in the performance of standard medical procedures including wound care, ear irrigation and pelvic exams.
- Transcribe orders for external services under the direction and supervision of the provider. Complete requisitions as needed.
- Maintain and preserve confidentiality of patient information.
- Prepare and administer medications and immunizations.
- Collect and prepare laboratory specimens.
- Perform basic laboratory test.
- Assist with appointment scheduling, follow up calls and patient outreach
- Respond to medical messages received by providers within 48 hours.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities and annual competencies.
