Summary/Objective
Housing Assistance is seeking a dynamic and passionate Director of Community Engagement to join our team. This role will develop and implement strategies to engage residents and stakeholders, build relationships with local organizations, and represent Housing Assistance at various events. They will manage and grow our volunteer program, including recruitment, training, and retention, and coordinate large-scale volunteer activities. The role also involves supporting housing advocacy efforts, including educational training and organizing outreach for town meetings.
Essential Functions
Community Engagement
- Develop and implement community engagement strategies to involve residents, stakeholders, and potential beneficiaries in Housing Assistance’s mission and programs.
- Establish and cultivate relationships with local community groups, nonprofits, and grassroots organizations to build support and expand the organization's outreach.
- Represent the organization at community events, meetings, and conferences, promoting awareness of our mission, services and opportunities for engagement.
- Actively identify and recruit individuals to serve as volunteers at Housing Assistance and to engage with our housing advocacy efforts.
- Collaborate with the marketing and communications team to develop and implement strategies for engaging the community through various channels, including social media, newsletters, and public speaking engagements.
Volunteer Management
- Direct, manage and grow Housing Assistance’s volunteer program.
- Oversee and coordinate volunteer lifecycle including recruitment, onboarding, training, scheduling, engagement, retention/post engagement and reporting.
- Collaborate with Housing Assistance staff to create meaningful volunteer opportunities across the organization.
- Plan and manage large scale volunteer activities including Big Fix events throughout the year.
- Implement recognition programs to appreciate and retain volunteers, such as awards, events, and thank-you notes.
- Conduct regular evaluations to gather feedback and improve the volunteer experience.
Housing Advocacy
- Coordinate and manage regular schedule of educational training for residents on how to advocate and speak up for housing in their town.
- Coordinate and support advocacy outreach and organizing efforts leading up to town meetings in the fall and spring.
- Stay updated on local housing policies, regulations, and best practices to inform the agency's advocacy efforts.
General Responsibilities:
- Attend Board meetings as requested, serve on pertinent committees and participate in community and social events that promote Housing Assistance and cultivate relationships.
- Establish and maintain positive working relationships with CEO's Staff, other administrators and staff.
- Complete duties and responsibilities in compliance with Housing Assistance Corp standards, policies and guidelines.
- Liaise with other departments.
Required Qualifications, Education, and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, community development or a related field.
- Proven experience (5+ years) in community engagement, volunteer management, or a similar role within a nonprofit organization.
- Excellent relationship-building skills with the ability to engage and collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
- Exceptional communication skills, including public speaking and presentation skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Skilled at coordinating events and meetings.
- Demonstrated experience in organizing, conceptualizing, and prioritizing objectives and managing a high-volume workflow office.
- Proficiency with use of e-mail, word processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation software and use of the Internet.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in community organizing, facilitation, and engagement strategies.
- Understanding of affordable housing programs and community development principles.
- Knowledge of local government processes, policies, and decision-making structures.

Pay: $70,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
