Research positions (junior and senior level) in computational materials, chemical engineering and computational biology are available at the NASA Ames Research Center. Applications ranging from battery materials (electrolytes/electrodes) to metal alloys to molecular simulations to biophysics/protein simulations and systems biology are under investigation. Computational tools utilized include a combination of ab initio methods, molecular dynamics simulations, machine learning, high throughput methods, mesoscale methods, thermodynamic models, process modeling etc. Candidates should have significant experience with one or more of these techniques. Direct experience with the standard software packages such as GROMACS, LAMMPS, VASP, etc. is desirable but not required. The position is with Dr John Lawson and coworkers.
Computational science research at the NASA Ames Research Center is directed towards multiscale modeling (ab initio, atomistic, mesoscale, continuum, data science) of next generation materials and biological systems for aerospace applications. We have multi- disciplinary teams (chemists, physicists, material scientists, chemical engineers) working on both experimental and computational issues.
The candidate should hold a doctoral degree in a relevant discipline, such as Physics, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Bioengineering, Computational Biology, Mechanical Engineering, Chemistry, Applied Mathematics before the commencement of the appointment. The ideal candidate will have a solid theoretical background, significant scientific programming experience as well as extensive demonstrated expertise with standard software packages.
Interested persons should submit a CV including publication list and contact information for 2-3 references. Applications will be reviewed until the position is filled. Applicants who are US citizens or permanent US residents will receive special consideration. However, well-qualified US based, foreign nationals will also be considered. Due to limited travel/relocation funds, only applicants currently residing in the US will be considered. Chinese or Iranian nationals must have green cards to be considered. The position is available immediately; however, the exact start date can be negotiated.
The NASA Ames Research Center is located near Mountain View, California, in the heart of Silicon Valley, 10 miles from Stanford University and 40 miles from San Francisco. Remote work is possible.
