Overview:
We are looking for compassionate people to join the team at the HIV/HCV Resource Center (H2RC). The Harm Reduction Specialist position involves helping to operate the Upper Valley's mobile Syringe Services Program; providing direct services to people who use drugs in the community. This could be a full-time or part-time position.
Objectives & Responsibilities:
- The HIV/HCV Resource Center's Syringe Services Program is mobile, needs-based and by appointment. The Harm Reduction Specialist position would involve meeting people who use drugs in the community to deliver harm reduction supplies and services.
- This position would require working independently, being and as part of a team. This includes being on-call during certain hours.
- In collaboration with H2RC staff and volunteers, this individual would help to complete orders for harm reduction supplies in the Upper Valley (Windsor, Orange, Sullivan, and Grafton counties).
- This position would require effective communication, time management, and some flexibility.
- Keep track of hours worked, mileage, and data from each client encounter. Submit hours, mileage, expenses, data, and other relevant information in a timely manner.
- Maintain boundaries and professional relationship with H2RC staff and clients.
- Never disclose information about the people H2RC serves. H2RC staff must maintain a high level of privacy and confidentiality.
- Encourage and facilitate client referrals to supportive services. Share resources and supportive fact-based information.
- Provide short overdose prevention training for people at risk of overdose.
- Complete training on the risk of blood-borne pathogen exposure and protocol to avoid needle stick injuries and maintain a safe work environment. Other trainings may be required.
- This position may include participation in community events and transportation of used sharps containers.
Qualifications
- Strong written and oral communication skills, including text messaging.
- A willingness to be flexible and on-call during scheduled hours.
- Valid Driver’s License and Reliable Transportation.
- Ability to provide quality non-judgmental services to people who use drugs.
- Knowledge of HIV/AIDS and viral Hepatitis.
- Knowledge of Harm Reduction principles and practices.
- Experience supporting people with substance use disorders.
- Willingness to work with diverse communities.
- Ability to maintain spreadsheets and client-level data
- Awareness of personal triggers and boundaries.
- Comfortable handling harm reduction supplies such as syringes.
