Position Summary:
The Medical Assistant assists the Primary Nurse in completion of clinic tasks and direct patient care. The Medical Assistant is responsible for administrative/clerical duties, promoting clinic flow by preparing exam rooms, escorting patients and preparing for patient exams and/or procedures. The Medical Assistant also assists the Physician’s and Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) with procedures as necessary.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare patient for exam and/or procedures and assists as needed
- Obtain and document basic health information including history, chief complaint and vital signs
- Clean, sterilize, prepare and stock exam rooms in an orderly manner with necessary instruments and supplies
- Answers phones, take messages and calls in patient prescriptions under the direction of the physician and documents accordingly in patient’s chart
- Complete charge tickets quickly and accurately
- Provide patient instruction and education as directed by the physician, or refers when appropriate
- Establish and maintain effective communication and professional working relationships with patients and their representatives, managers, physicians, other clinic staff, outside agencies, and the public
- Prepare electronic charts for patient appointment
- Assist with coordination of provider’s practice
- Communicate with and assist In-Office Dispensing department in regards to patient education, medication and durable medical equipment (DME)
- May perform other duties as assigned or requested
Qualifications:
- Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant Program, preferred
- 1-2 years of experience in healthcare environment
- BLS certified Skill in appropriate documentation and records maintenance
- Skill in usage of PC, multi-line phone, copier, fax, and printer
- Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations
- Ability to interpret, adapt and apply written guidelines and procedures to standard work practice
- Ability to speak effectively before individuals and/or groups
- Able to hear average or normal conversations and receive ordinary information
- Skill in taking vital signs for age’s newborn to geriatric

- Movements frequently and regularly required using the wrists, hands, and/or fingers
- Using primarily just the fingers to make small movements such as typing, picking up small objects, or pinching fingers together
- Must have good manual dexterity and ability to use both hands and tools to manipulate small and delicate parts
- Average, ordinary, visual acuity necessary to prepare or inspect documents or products, or operate machinery.
- Prolonged periods of sitting, standing or walking may be required, should be able to transport approximately 0-25lbs of charts or files.
- Occasional assistance in patient transfers of up to 200lbs with assistance
