JOB PURPOSE
- The Nurse Practitioner is responsible for providing direct patient care to assigned patients within an urgent care setting. This is a professional level position working under limited direction yet in coordination with an APN lead. Typical work scenarios require specialized knowledge, critical thinking, good judgment based upon the principles of biological, physiological, behavioral, and sociological sciences skills, as well as strong customer service skills. Internal contacts include medical staff and management throughout the clinic and health system. External contacts include patients, physicians, outside medical staff, and community resource services.
- 1. Performs and provides treatments for minor acute illness, patient examinations, making initial assessment, initiating treatment and referring to appropriate center of care when applicable. Percentage of time: 40%
- Determines abnormal conditions by administering or ordering diagnostic tests, such as x-rays, electrocardiograms, and laboratory studies; interpreting test results. Percentage of time: 10%
- Performs therapeutic procedures by administering injections and immunizations; suturing; managing wounds and infections. Percentage of time: 10%
- Instructs and counsels patients by describing therapeutic regimens; giving normal growth and development information and promoting wellness and health maintenance. Percentage of time: 5%
- Develops and implements patient management plans, records progress notes, and assists in provision of continuity of care. Percentage of time: 5%
- Prescribes pharmaceuticals, other medications, and treatment regimens as appropriate to assessed medical conditions and refers patients to specialist and to relevant patient care options as appropriate. Percentage of time: 10%
- Demonstrates good organizational skills in coordinating services with co-workers and other departments/services. Responds to stressful situations in a calm and rational manner, and cooperates with all to facilitate integration of services. Behaves in a professional and empathetic manner to build trust, comfort, understanding, and relationships with patients and the secondary guest(s) and in-line with Studer Principles. Percentage of time: 10%
- Facilitates the education and professional development of patient care practitioners. Participates in the education of clients, families and the community. Assists staff with the maintenance of clinical competencies and the promotion of critical thinking skills. Develops the framework for clinical orientation of professional staff in conjunction with unit-based educators, preceptors, and Directors; evaluates efficacy of the program. Mentors preceptors and other professional nursing staff in unit based leadership roles. May be required to supervise ancillary staff. Percentage of time: 10%
Skills:
- CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS Minimum: Current State Registered Nurse license, Current Licensure and Certificate to practice as a Nurse Practitioner issued by a State Board, Board Certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner, Valid Drug Enforcement Agency license - DEA Schedule 2-5, American Heart Association BLS for Health Care Providers.
- TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS - The provider must maintain current certification in either the American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) (Course C) or the American Red Cross Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)/BLS, ACLS course, and Community Health Management, Tables 1.1 through 1.6. The MTF can provide BLS and ACLS refresher courses.

YEARS OF RELATED WORK EXPERIENCE-Minimum: Two years’ experience as an Nurse Practitioner in a family practice setting or related field.
- Preferred: Urgent care experience
- INTERPERSONAL SKILLS-Exceptional customer service and phone etiquette.
- COMMUNICATION SKILLS-The employee communicates effectively. Skilled in correct grammar, spelling, and punctuation.

- Minimum: Master of Nursing Degree. Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing as defined in Section 1482, Nurse Practice Act, Business and Professional Code.
