Job Summary:
Responsible for the daily operations of the Operating Room.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties:
· Order all supplies for OR.
· Communicate with surgeons about supplies needed for surgeries.
· Compare prices of OR supplies between suppliers.
· Keep updated inventory of the OR and clinical supplies.
· Ensures supplies, instruments and equipment are ready for scheduled surgeries.
· Oversees positions in the OR to make sure that they are being done correctly (PACU, sterilization of instruments, Scrub Tech).
· Assists in the OR, during surgeries.
· Perform/ensure quality control tests and cleaning is being done and logged correctly.
· Notify OR team of cut time and amount of cases scheduled.
· Make changes to surgical source, as needed.
· Communicate with medical reps regarding scheduling of surgeries and supplies needed.
· Communicate with company reps when large equipment malfunctions in the OR.
· Ensure all OR equipment is calibrated twice per year.
· Communicate with OR Administrator regarding upcoming and scheduled surgeries.
· Organize and assist with yearly drills, i.e. malignant hyperthermia, fire, code blue, etc.
· Maintain crash cart, anesthesia cart and medication cart.
· Keep detailed records of controlled medications.
· Maintain and organize patient charts and ensure all required paperwork is included.
· Assist with room turnover between surgeries.
· Ensures that backup staff has been trained and is notified when needed.
· Assists OR Manager in fulfilling AAAASF accreditation requirements.
· Assumes other duties and responsibilities as assigned. The above responsibilities are a general description of the level and nature of the work assigned to this classification and are not to be considered as all inclusive.
Education/Experience/Skills:
· Demonstrate ability to independently coordinate and manage all types of surgical procedures.
· Must have a working knowledge of surgical equipment and other needs in the OR (Operating Room).
· Must have the ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
· Must reflect the professional image of the company, upholding the company vision in actions, demeanor, and appearance.
· Previous OR or Surgical experience preferred.
Working Conditions
1. Indoor, Clinic environment.
2. Essential physical requirements include sitting, typing, standing, walking.
3. Lightly active position, occasional lifting of up to 20 pounds.
4. Reporting to work, as scheduled, is essential.
