lnnerCity Collaborative Community Development Corporation is a faith based non-profit organization of the District of Columbia. One of our community-based initiatives involve serving and mentoring high risk adolescents/young adults throughout the District of Columbia and Maryland. Partnering with the Department of Youth Rehabilitation Services (DYRS) the lnnerCity Collaborative CDC presents Homes with a Real Heart (HWaRH) which will provide temporary housing and support to adolescents and young adults in the District of Columbia.
Job Summary:
The Residential Aide provides 24-hour on-site monitoring services to support the wellbeing and safety of all residents, staff, and visitors, and works cooperatively with the program administrator and staff at all levels to ensure quality of service by performing the duties set forth below. HWaRH adopts a Restorative Justice/Conflict Resolution Model in all of its homes and shall adapt a cognitive behavioral therapeutic strategy that focuses on a strength-based approach to helping youth examine thought processes and how they can be transformative in redirecting adverse behavior patterns and resolving conflict/disagreements amongst themselves, with staff, members of the community and their families.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Monitors the residents, units, and grounds of HWARH Home always to ensure the security and safety of each resident
- Responsible for the reporting, planning and implementation of the daily, weekly and monthly activity schedule
- Makes regular house check inspections inside the building to include checking individual rooms when necessary as well as the area immediately outside
- Maintains all necessary records, including but not limited to legible, comprehensive, and accurate reports of house activities in the house log
- Provides crisis intervention and on-site counseling
- Plans, schedules, organizes, and supervises recreational activities
- Carries out emergency fire evacuation, and emergency procedures in case of an illness or accident
- Provides de-escalation services to the residents as needed and to ensure safety and well-being of all residents, staff, and visitors, including contacting MPD, DYRS, mental health provider, as necessary
- Reports unusual incidents to the appropriate parties OR writes unusual incident reports
- Provides office coverage by answering and recording all calls and visitors
- Provides appropriate oversight to the participants and maintains supervision of the house, enforces house rules, and ensures house safety
- Participates in training provided or recommended by the Agency
- Participates in regular supervision with Program Director
- Attends and participates in staff meetings and other meetings/activities identified by the Program Director
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned
Part-time (16-20 hours)
Full-time (40 hours)
Hours: Monday - Friday 1st shift - 8:00 am - 4:00 pm 2nd shift - 4:00 pm -12:00 am
3rd shift - 12:00 am - 8:00am
Saturday & Sunday 1st shift - 12:00 am -12:00 pm 2nd shift - 12:00 pm - 12:00 am
- Work in collaboration with the Director, Program Manager, Credible Messenger (mentor) and the resident's Care Coordinator as assigned by DYRS
- Attend and participate in all required meetings.
- Participate in restorative justice and healing circle group work with residents.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and written with diverse clientele.
- Excellent computer skills, including proficiency in MS Office Suite
- Attention to detail, organizational skills, and follow through required, exceptional problem solving capabilities.
- Ability to work collaboratively with other personnel and or service providers or professionals
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) certification and some work experience, preferably with the homeless, high-risk adolescents/young adults
- Must learn and apply positive behavior modification techniques and model effective de escalation and problem-solving skills
- Must have the ability to gain and sustain various background and clearance checks as required
- Must have and maintain a current driver's license and be able to transport adolescents/young adults and staff as needed. (Only if assigned as transportation)
- Possess basic computer skills and great customer service skills
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Must be detailed orientated and able to multi-task
- Ability to work extra hours, attend meetings/training, when needed
Licenses and Certifications
Must have valid driver's license and a clean driving record along with proof of automobile insurance to transport residents.
The incumbent must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of walking, standing, bending, grasping, talking, repetitive motions, squatting, running, jumping and climbing; to carry or drag an individual (125 pounds, or more) a minimum of seventy-five (75) feet; and to fully perform DYRS approved de-escalation strategies and to apply approved restraining techniques to aggressive and assaultive youth. The incumbent must have visual and hearing acuity to fully observe the behaviors and interactions of residents and other persons within the facility or during official travel and activities, and to effectively receive and transmit communications by two-way radios and telephones and be able to read and interpret written material and must possess effective written and oral communication skills.
A physical exam and physical assessment examination will be conducted during the pre-employment process to verify that the incumbent can meet the physical demand of the position.
A child Protection Registry clearance is also required.
