The Los Angeles Brotherhood Crusade is a nonprofit, 501(c)(3) organization founded in 1968 to enrich the lives of youth, seniors, homeless populations, economically disadvantaged families, and under-served individuals in South Los Angeles by providing and facilitating a variety of essential educational services, social services, cultural activities, vocational opportunities and economic empowerment opportunities.

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Brotherhood Crusade Life Skills & Entrepreneur Trainer will engage with Youth enrolled in our
YouthSource Center. You will be charged to train and provide a classroom setting where
reinforcement of positive and appropriate behavior is practiced. This would include providing a
curriculum that fosters creativity, critical thinking, problem solving, decision making and the ability to effectively communicate along with personal and social responsibility that will contribute to good citizenship.
Brotherhood Crusade is looking for a dynamic and experienced Trainer who, under the supervision of
the Educational College and Success Director, will develop and instruct job preparation classes,
the Brotherhood Crusade Self Actualization and Jr. Executive Workforce Development training
programs, the Brotherhood Crusade Power Skills for Vocational Success curriculum, the Accenture
Skills to Succeed curriculum, training curricula from employer and workforce development partners,
and other similarly effective curricula. The Life Skills and Entrepreneur Trainer shall cause
14-24 (with an emphasis on 18-24) year old South Los Angeles County opportunity, disconnected and
otherwise disenfranchised youth who present with barriers to employment (program participants) to
graduate from Brotherhood Crusade’s workforce development program and be well-prepared to navigate
and matriculate through Brotherhood Crusade’s Stepwise Employment Experiences pathway, which shall ultimately lead to job
placement and sustained employment in a living wage career.
Importantly, the goal of the Brotherhood Crusade YouthSource Center is to provide services to young
people that improve their life by causing them to self-actualize, increasing their agency and
self-determination, developing vocational power (life and social) and technical skills, improving
their academic proficiency, and facilitating their adoption of success principles that lead to
self-reliance as well as subsequent advancement with respect to their career goals and objectives.
To this end, the Life Skills & Entrepreneur Trainer shall build meaningful relationships with
program participants; instruct beginning, intermediate and advanced job preparation,
entrepreneurship training and continuation classes; instruct financial education classes; establish
partnerships with employers and workforce training institutions with respect to the use and
instruction of their curricula; and develop curricula for and instruct program participants who
have been placed in stepwise employment opportunities to ensure sustained learning and growth in
accordance with their individual-specific youth development plans.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Instruct beginning, intermediate, advanced and intensive job preparation and continuation
classes using the Brotherhood Crusade Self Actualization, Jr. Executive Workforce Development
Program, Power (Life) Skills for Vocational Success, Taking Financial Control, Ubuntu Experience,
Accenture Skills to Succeed, and other approved curricula. These classes shall target
Disconnected, Opportunity and otherwise disenfranchised 14–24-year-old South Los Angeles County
youth and young adults and are mandatory for program participants.
- Develop beginning, intermediate, advanced and intensive job preparation and continuation
curricula as appropriate. The classes shall include a mainstreaming component that simulates employer expectations in a real workforce setting such that the participants experience and are held accountable to these life lessons.
- Execute formal agreements with and between the youth/young adult, their parent or guardian (as
appropriate) and Brotherhood Crusade outlining the terms and conditions of program participation
(including weekly attendance at the beginning, intermediate, advanced and intensive job
preparation, life skills and entrepreneurship classes) and the roles and responsibilities of each
concerned/interested party.
- Develop and maintain database and statistics that directly relate to participant progress with
respect to their learning goals and objectives as required by our funding partners and delineated
in the Brotherhood Crusade Workforce Development Evaluation and Learning Protocol.
- Maintain requisite records of youth and young adults as it relates to their instructional
progress and matriculation through the learning objectives identified in their individual- specific
youth development plan.
- Develop, facilitate and provide pre-employment and post-employment workshops and professional
development opportunities.
- Create, develop and instruct curricula that addresses issues identified by the Job Placement
Liaison or Job Developer such that the youth and young adults continue to develop and improve their
workplace skills and behaviors and are well positioned to consistently exceed employer
expectations.
- Instruct the training curriculum of employment partners, as appropriate
- Prepare youth for entrepreneurial opportunities that may be presented by stakeholders,
corporate or foundation partners
- Prepare and conduct training sessions for according to a prepared plan alternating
entrepreneurship classes as required
- Specify relevant curriculum to specific age/level groups and provide relevant technical inputs
to enter the job market.
- Coach young people with developing viable micro-entrepreneurship ideas and help them develop
an introductive business plan;
- Collaborate and coordinate with other departments for participant referrals
ADDITIONAL DUTIES:
- Assist Case Managers in creating participant-specific youth development plan learning
objectives.
- Participate in staff meetings, supervision, training programs and other meetings as required.
- Work closely with the case management staff, Job Developer, Job Liaison, College and Career &
Scholarship Counselor and Pupil Services and Attendance Administrator to ensure open communication
and interaction in order to meet customer satisfaction and job placement goals.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor degree in education, social sciences, business or similar field.
- Ability to inspire, motivate and cause young people to learn, internalize, adopt and
consistently put into practice the habits and traits of successful employees and entrepreneurs.
- At least two years of paid experience in workforce development instruction or career
counseling with a minimum of five years in youth and young adult instruction.
- Experience with entrepreneurship
- Knowledge of principles and processes for providing outstanding customer service and ability
to effectively convey such knowledge to young people.
- Strong knowledge of employer recruiting, interviewing, selecting and hiring practices and ability to effectively convey such knowledge to young people.
Self-starter, organized and detail-oriented.
Ability to work effectively as a team member.
Ability to communicate openly and effectively with all participants and staff.
Strong problem-solving ability, organizational skills and deadline-driven.
Job requires a willingness to take on responsibilities and challenges.
Job requires being open to change and to considerable variety in the workplace.
Extensive experience facilitating workshops, instructional sessions and practicum opportunities.
Strong computer skills.
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint)
Bilingual/Spanish a plus
Will be required to present current California driver license, proof of acceptable driving record (DMV H-6 printout), and liability auto insurance

WORKING CONDITIONS WHILE PERFORMING ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND EQUIPMENT USED
The successful candidate will be required to report to and work from the office complex at least five days a week. Offices are traditionally equipped with computers, telephones, desks, chairs, and office machines. Additionally, each office offers an instructional classroom from which orientations and trainings are conducted.
SALARY RANGE:
