Job Summary:
We are currently looking for a Medication Nursing Assistant to fill our 3-11 FT position. The medication technician provides residents courteous and accurate administration of medication in accordance with the physician’s orders. This position is responsible for also providing direct care and services to residents according to the individualized service plan as needed.
Essential Functions:
- Demonstrates implementation of “The 5R’s of Med Administration”. (right resident, right drug, right dose, right, time, and right route)
- Views all residents as a whole, thus reporting any concerns within or outside the realm of medications.
- Administers medications as prescribed by the physician orders.
- Maintains resident information confidential at all times during medication administration.
- Administers medication to residents according to the defined medication procedures.
- Aware of prominent medication adverse effects and interactions and monitors residents for such untoward effects and reports them to the nurse immediately.
- Inspects medication for expiration date, contamination, discoloration or defect.
- When medication assistance plan in place, supervises residents who self‐administer their medications, according to procedure.
- Adheres to infection control policies of the community.
- Maintains resident records in a timely manner, with documentation completed immediately after administration of medication.
- Maintains the cleanliness and organization of the medication cart, and other medication storage areas.
- Reports all resident requests for PRN medication with the nurse for approval to administer.
- Reports any medication error committed or observed to the nurse immediately and completes incident report form.
- Counts controlled substances with off going nurses, assumes responsibility for accuracy of count before accepting keys.
- Provides direct resident care and services as needed or as directed by the Nurse.
- Ensures compliance and understanding of all regulations regarding resident’s rights.
- Adhere to all non‐negotiables.
Minimum Eligibility Requirements:
- Has completed a certified medication technician program and has continued to expand on and update knowledge of medication administration.
- Ability to read, write and speak English
- Ability to communicate effectively with residents, families, staff, community officials and the general public
- Must have compassion for and desire to work with the elderly
- Must meet all State health requirements
- Must be able to perform duties and responsibilities (Essential Job Functions) with or without reasonable accommodation
- Must pass criminal background check
Physical Requirements:
- Physically able to move at least 25 lbs. without assistance.
- Physical stamina and ability to assist residents as needed and in emergencies.
- Physically able to bend, reach and work in small areas.
- Physically able to push and pull, equipment and furnishings.
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
Pay: From $23.00 per hour
