INTERIOR DESIGNER

Primary Function: Under the direction of the Owner/Principal Designer and/or in collaboration with the Lead or Sr. Interior Designer/Project Manager, the Interior Designer will be responsible for sourcing, pricing, and purchasing tile, wall covering, building products, and/or lighting for private interior design clients of Katherine Mueller Design. May also lead or assist with design installations and work directly with clients on various projects. Will use CAD design to create and/or update building plans and will act as a general resource to clients and staff on behalf of Katherine Mueller Design.
Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
· Source, price, and purchase tile, wall covering, building products, and/or lighting for private interior design clients.
· Prepare “spec books” for client presentations.
· Under direction or as delegated, will be responsible for project management that may include site visits, overseeing and tracking project schedules, and the construction process.
· Evaluate suppliers, contractors, vendors, etc. to ensure quality, pricing, selection, and reliable service. Recommend changes where needed.
· Where appropriate, negotiate pricing or contracts with suppliers, vendors, and/or other business associates.
· Furniture design and selections is a plus.
· Research and explore the use of new materials, technologies, and products to incorporate into designs. Keep abreast and current with design trends.
· Use computer-aided drafting (CAD) and other design-related software to produce or edit construction or renovation documents.
· Communicate, coordinate service, and follow-up with contractors, fabricators, installers, builders, etc. as needed or as directed.
· In coordination with the Procurement team, assist with preparation and/or processing of estimates, invoices, purchase transactions, and/or return of items for private design clients.
· Ensure timely follow-up on all special orders and with clients for product or merchandise information to close a sale and to confirm timely delivery.
· May assist or be responsible for design layout and installation at a client’s home.
· At all times provide the highest level of customer service to design clients, designers, showroom visitors and other business associates. Follow established procedures in relation to customer service and sales techniques. This includes in-person, on the telephone, email, social media, or any other means of contact.
· May occasionally assist clients on the Showroom floor during staff breaks or during peak times.
· Participate in annual inventory of the Showroom or other projects as needed.
· Meet established goals and metrics applicable to the position and to Katherine Mueller Design. This will include but not be limited to, goals related to billable hours, profitability, and growth initiatives for this position as well as other Interior Design staff.
· Maintain clear, timely and professional communication at all times, both with internal and external customers.
· Participate in meetings with the Owner/Principal Designer, design clients, design team, and/or Showroom staff to share information, discuss pertinent information and/or delegate tasks. These meetings may take place outside of normal hours, and either at the office or at a client’s home.
· Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Experience/Educational Requirements:
· Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Interior Design or related field.
· Minimum of three (6) years of professional interior design experience commensurate to the position level, preferably in a luxury brand market. Compensation based on experience.
· Strong interpersonal and business-related skills to effectively lead and/or be a resource to others.
· Experience with sourcing and creative merchandising of products, preferably related to building products, tile, plumbing, flooring, lighting, accessories, finishes and materials.
· Up-to-date understanding of design industry trends, best practices, and market trends.
· Extensive knowledge of brand and design aesthetics.
· Proficient with all Microsoft products including Excel and PowerPoint (using PC and Mac), email and internet required; experience with Quickbooks or other point of service software required.
· Working knowledge of computer-aided design (CAD) software required. Experience with 3D rendering software a plus.
· Strong skills in developing and coordinating construction documents and understanding architectural details.
· Ability to perform math functions and analysis to ensure all purchase transactions and financial reports are accurate.
