What You’ll Be Doing
The Certified Medical Assistant is responsible for assisting Provider(s) in the care of patients to assure optimal delivery of medical care. Our Philadelphia clinics are very heavy on injections (blood draws, vaccinations & PPD Injections).
The successful candidate will be able to:
- Perform all relevant medical tasks including collecting vital signs, phlebotomy, performing EKGs and other minor diagnostics/treatments, administering injections and routine immunizations, assisting Provider with minor procedures, quality control testing, and maintaining CLIA waiver log, etc.
- Prepare patient charts including DIs, referrals, preventative screeners, labs, and DMEs.
- Gather personal and clinical information from patient, readies paperwork and communicates information to care team as appropriate
- Participate in developing and updating of HPI, Social History, vitals, assessment and plans for patients
- Communicate with patients and their family to put them at ease
- Maintain medical supply inventory for clinic; keeps patient rooms stocked with supplies as appropriate
- Process various types of medication refills
- Schedules patient appointments, per scheduling guidelines
- Process patient referrals, prior authorizations and DME; schedule and coordinate appointments with specialists and outside organizations as needed
- Manage incoming and outgoing information/records received from specialists, hospitals, and emergency rooms; appropriately indexes documents
- Accurately update patient information in the EMR (i.e. demographics, contact preferences, insurance information etc.).
- Identify the health maintenance needs before welcoming the patient to the exam room (i.e. PhilaVax, outstanding preventive screeners needed, etc.)
- Preview the schedule in advance, re-evaluates it throughout the day; tracks the flow of the clinic schedule to keep team on track and on time
- Collaborate with provider to ensure patients receive appropriate counseling and health education at time of visit or via telephonic follow-up (i.e. explanation of lab results, glucometer and inhaler teaching, chronic disease education, etc.)
- Manage influx of clinical triage calls; conducts appropriate triage over the phone and assesses whether patient can be treated telephonically or needs to be seen by provider
- Work in partnership with team members; collaborates with care team to ensure patient’s healthcare needs are being met
- Performs any and all other duties as assigned
What We’re Looking For
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Valid registration/certification as a Certified Medical Assistant required
- At least 1-2 years recent experience in urgent or primary care setting
- Must have a valid driver’s license & reliable transportation
- Knowledge of the Vaccine for Children program (VFC), a plus
- Must have experience in phlebotomy/venipuncture
- Ability to communicate effective with Providers and others to resolve issues
- Ability to demonstrate reliability and responsiveness to patients, families, and co-workers
- Bi-lingual (English/Spanish) a plus!
