Located in Troy, MI, UnaSource Surgery Center is looking for a highly skilled Registered Nurse First Assist to join our growing Team. The Registered Nurse First Assist (RNFA) functions in an expanded perioperative nursing role-working under the direction of the surgeon in the OR performing advanced intraoperative tasks. The RNFA is a first assistant to the primary surgeon during operative procedures.

Education/Experience*
Graduate of accredited registered nurse program
Valid RN license
Successful completion of an AORN recognized / endorsed RNFA program
Certification in perioperative nursing (CNOR)
Three years recent perioperative nursing experience
BLS certification

Additional Characteristics*
- Ability to fulfill the intraoperative scrub and circulator roles in addition to first assisting
- Competently applies principles of aseptic technique
- Understands surgical anatomy, physiology and operative technique related to first assisting
- Familiarity with surgical equipment and supplies
- Demonstrates the ability to recognize safety hazards and to initiate appropriate preventive and corrective action
- Demonstrates the ability to perform effectively and harmoniously as a member of the operative team
- Ability to establish cooperative relationships with internal and external customers
- Takes initiative in performing additional tasks

Essential Functions*

- Demonstrates skill in the following intra-operative first assisting behaviors:
- Patient Positioning
- Using instruments and medical devices
- Providing exposure
- Handling and/or cutting of tissue
- Providing hemostasis
- Suturing
- Positioning the patient
- Applying wound dressing
- Transferring patients
- Able to anticipate the needs of the surgeon and other team members with respect to the requirements of a particular surgical procedure.
- Report Incidents and Adverse Incidents per Center policy.
- BLS certification.
- Demonstrate competency in total joint and spine intraoperative nursing; including circulating and scrubbing
- Annual completion of specified mandatory in-services.
- Annual completion of six hours of total joint and spine specialty education.
- Follow all USC policies, the HIPAA Privacy Rule and the Corporate Responsibility Plan which includes the Standards of Conduct
