The Responsibilities of the position
AMS IT IDC Engineer provides onsite Data Center support by monitoring day to day operations, maintenance and troubleshooting of the San Jose Data Center infrastructure in the AMS region.
This document provides an overview of the AMS IT IDC Engineer scope of work.
- Assist in the physical installation of network and server equipment.
◦ Cabling copper, fiber, power and other components of server room appliance/equipment.
◦ Mounting, racking, and stacking hardware up to 50lbs in standardized 45RU :600mmx1200mm rack.
◦ Able to mount and install server rails, shelves, and other equipment mounting mechanisms.
◦ Utilizing hardware ServerLift to install server equipment
- Provide technical assistance, troubleshoot issues, and assist in maintaining our data center and IDF infrastructure (Network & Power).
◦ Networking: Through customer communication and onsite device and port confirmations, you will then provide the onsite details to the created Customer group chat to provide onsite smart hand support through the instructions of both Network Engineer and Data Center Manager.
◦ Power: Through communication and data gathering regarding onsite PDU, UPS, and Electrical Panel information, you will then provide onsite details to the appropriate group chat to provide onsite smart hand support through the instructions of both Network Engineer and Data Center Manager.
- Provide equipment access and escort for the data center when requested.
◦ Customers: The IDC engineer will be able to identify the customer's equipment location and escort the customer inside of the correct cage, rack, and device.
◦ Customer Vendor: Providing access and escort for equipment installations and site survey
Facility Maintenance: There will be periodically facility maintenance that will be conducted within the Data Center Room (Quarterly, semi-annually, and annually). The IDC Engineer will help provide appropriate access and escort for the UPS vendor to the equipment for the duration of their stay.
- Maintain cleanliness and orderly arrangement of the data center/IDF facility to uphold operational standards.
◦ This includes but is not limited to clean cable management, cable labeling, trash removal, and periodically floor sweeping.

- Utilizing sunBird DCIM Software as a tool to manage and navigate the data center.
- Respond promptly to user-reported technical issues and service requests via ticketing system, email, or phone, while also proactively monitoring and addressing environmental and system alerts.
Requirements:
1. Computer Technology related degree
2. Three - Ten years IT Engineer experience in IDC Data center
3. Working knowledge of Windows & MacOS, iOS & Android, tickets: system, application, networking,server
4. MCSE/MCITP, ITIL certificate is ideal
5. Service skills with polite manners and being able to handle pressure from frustrated users.
6. Strong IT troubleshooting and problem-solving skills Great team player who can work in a collaborative culture
7. Self-motivate, open-to-learn, receptive to change and improvement Ability to manage and prioritize own tasks and helpdesk issues
