Job Description:
This position is designed to support the development of a comprehensive and high-quality First-Year Experience (FYE) so that all students are retained to their second year. By serving as the primary point of contact for and engaging in proactive outreach to first-year students, the First-Year Success Coach will contribute to increasing student satisfaction, grow retention, improve institutional processes, articulate expectations, and enhance the first-year experience.
Work Location: Both Doheny Campus (Downtown Los Angeles) and Chalon Campus (West Los Angeles). Occasional remote work.

Position Hourly Rate Range: $19.89- $20.67
Hiring salary can be above the posted pay range if candidate's qualifications are determined to be above the minimum requirements of the position description.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Serve as the main point of contact for traditional undergraduate first-year students and regularly meet with and provide updates to the Director of Student Success and Retention

Support, mentor, and guide students through the college transition by helping them navigate campus departments such as advising, course registration, financial aid, student accounts, professional development, and residence life

Provide 1:1 and small group success coaching for first-year students using tools such as Clifton Strengths and College Student Inventory for students at risk

Check in regularly with each student, using a proactive, intrusive advising strategy

Document all relevant student interactions in our student success platform

Refer students of concern and manage a caseload of first-year students in Athenian Care 360, our early alert system

Collaborate regularly with Transition and Success Coaches in admissions to ensure relevant student information is exchanged and students receive appropriate support that leverages their existing relationships on campus

Coordinate with Student Affairs, Academic Advisement, faculty mentors, and the Academic Support Center to provide tailored programming that positively impacts student success

Participates in key Undergraduate Dean's Office programs and events throughout the year

Collaborate with Director of Student Success and Retention, OIT, Student Affairs, and others as needed to identify data and assessment needs from student success and early alert systems for ongoing improvement of student support

With support from the Director of Student Success and Retention, convene regularly with Student Care, Academic Advisement, Student Accounts, Financial Aid, and other departments as needed to encourage first-year student registration efforts

Requirements:
Knowledge:
- Working knowledge of general advisement policies, procedures, and practices.

Working knowledge of computers and word-processing, spreadsheet, database and or other types of software applications.

Bilingual (Spanish/English) skills and experience supporting Hispanic, Pell-eligible, and first-generation students are preferred.
Abilities and Skills:
- Demonstrate an understanding of a diverse student population and the ability to build rapport and maintain positive and effective relationships with a variety of students.

Strong organizational and documentation skills.

Maintain a high level of confidentiality.

Can manage and track data to improve the quality and impact of student support.

Ability to work collaboratively across campus, and a strong team orientation.
Education:
- Bachelor's degree required in psychology, education, sociology, or related field.
Experience:
- Minimum of one year experience in advisement, counseling, student support, or related field.
