POSITION OVERVIEW
The Protective Services Safety Officer will assist the Protective Services Supervisor, with overseeing every aspect of safety, security and assist in emergency preparedness for all guests, staff, volunteers, and property. Reporting to the Protective Services Supervisor, this is a Seasonal, hourly, non-exempt position which will be paid based on the hours worked.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Enforce the DoSeum Emergency Action plan following the safety and emergency response policies and procedures, for potential emergencies including but not limited to; evacuation, fire, severe weather, lost child, bomb threat, active shooter, suspicious package, gas leak, power outages, lock down, shelter in place, earthquake, abducted child, suspicious person, hostage situation, robbery, emergency elevator operations and terrorism.
- Understand the importance of promoting an environment built around the principles of safety, courtesy, show quality and efficiency while fostering a positive and fun workplace. All through guests and staff interaction throughout the workday.
- To understand the importance in training staff and volunteers to act decisively in emergency situations.
- To be trained in the use of fire extinguishers as well as fire extinguisher inspections Also to be aware of their locations throughout the property.
- Inspect AED’s and First Aid kits to ensure functionality and needed items are present.
- To be trained in FEMA IS-100.c, 230.d, 700.b, 200.c, 907. Within 3 months of hire.
- To patrol the facility as well as being visible to all guests, staff, and volunteers.
- To embrace the concept of “see something, say something” and its role in the daily operation of the DoSeum facility.
- Document incidents on web-based programs.
MINIMUM QALIFICATIONS
- High School Diploma or GED
- Knowledge and understanding of public security/safety, NFPA Fire Code and Fire Standards- emergency egress.
- Knowledge in First Aid and CPR.
- Able to respond to stressful situations and argumentative visitors.
- Knowledge in CCTV programs.
- Flexible schedule (must be able to work evenings, weekends, and some holidays, as events require)
- The ideal candidate is detail oriented and has excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience with Microsoft programs preferred
- Possess a valid driver’s license.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

- Must be able to lift 50lbs.
- Able to work 8 hour shifts.
- Comfortable interacting with guests, volunteers, and staff of the Museum.
- Regularly required periods of physical activity, including moving briskly through the building, climbing ladders & stairs, and responding quickly to alarms and emergencies.
- Safety officer must be willing to work entire shift standing and in adverse weather conditions.
- Variable exposure to noise, weather and elements.
- Flexible working hours; requires working weekends, days and evenings.
