Job Description:
We are seeking an experienced General Manager to oversee our lumber yard and retail store operations at Diamond Lumber in Visalia, CA. The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge of the lumber industry, strong leadership skills, and a proven track record of successfully managing teams and operations in a similar environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic Leadership: Develop and execute strategic plans to ensure the efficient and profitable operation of the lumber yard and retail shop. Drive initiatives to optimize processes, increase productivity, and enhance customer satisfaction.
- Team Management: Lead and motivate a diverse team of staff, including sales associates, lumber handlers, and administrative personnel. Provide guidance, training, and support to ensure high levels of performance and employee engagement.
- Inventory Management: Oversee inventory levels, procurement, and storage to meet customer demand while minimizing excess stock and associated costs. Implement best practices for inventory control, including regular audits and accurate record-keeping.
- Quality Assurance: Maintain high standards of product quality and ensure compliance with industry regulations and safety standards. Implement quality control measures and procedures to minimize defects and ensure customer satisfaction.
- Customer Relations: Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, suppliers, and other stakeholders. Address customer inquiries, concerns, and complaints promptly and effectively to maintain a positive reputation and drive customer loyalty.
- Financial Management: Develop and manage budgets, forecasts, and financial reports to monitor performance and identify areas for improvement. Implement cost-saving measures and revenue-generating initiatives to maximize profitability.
- Health and Safety: Prioritize the health and safety of employees, customers, and visitors by implementing and enforcing rigorous safety protocols and procedures. Ensure compliance with all relevant health and safety regulations and standards.
- Continuous Improvement: Drive a culture of continuous improvement by fostering innovation, collaboration, and learning within the organization. Identify opportunities for operational enhancements and efficiency gains through process optimization and technology adoption.
Qualifications:
- Proven 10+ years experience in a managerial role within the lumber or building materials industry.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire and motivate teams.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
- Solid understanding of inventory management, supply chain logistics, and financial principles.
- Proficiency in relevant software applications, such as inventory management systems, POS systems, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Knowledge of safety regulations and best practices in the lumber industry.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and adapt to changing priorities.
