The Cherokee Office of Economic Development (COED) is hiring a full-time Tour Ambassador for its statewide Workforce initiative, Be Pro Be Proud Georgia. Launched in 2020, the Be Pro Be Proud Georgia Mobile Workshop Tour consists of daily tour stops to Georgia middle and high schools, 2-year colleges and public events and showcases various skilled trades such as commercial driving, welding, heavy equipment operations, and more. This overall mission is to change perceptions of technical trades. The Tour normally follows the school year, beginning around August and concluding at the end of the school year around May. Summer activities with partners will also occur.
The Be Pro Be Proud Georgia Tour Ambassador will serve as an Independent Contractor and enter a 12-month contract. Specific schedules may vary from week to week and breaks are built around the school schedule. A daily compensation rate is provided for each full day of operation as well as a per diem for meals and lodging.
As a Tour Ambassador, you’ll partner with COED’s Team to produce exciting and engaging Workforce Development events for middle and high schools all around the state of Georgia. We want someone with positive energy, passion, and a high level of integrity to work with us. This person will interact on a daily basis with the Tour Manager, students, teachers, industry, and program partners. The Tour Ambassador must be able to enthusiastically communicate Be Pro Be Proud’s mission, functions and purpose to all constituents during routine conversations.
Duties and Responsibilities include:
- Work with tour contacts at each school/event site to ensure the day's events are properly planned
- Map tour routes prior to each event to avoid areas difficult to navigate or that may harm the Mobile Workshop.
- Scout tractor and trailer prior to each trip to determine entry/exit and maintenance concerns to avoid damage to the Mobile Workshop
- Schedule maintenance required to Mobile Workshop, each interactive station and all simulators
- Maintain cleanliness of Mobile Workshop, each interactive station and all simulators
- Arrive at least one hour early for each tour stop, monitoring weather – especially during winter months – to ensure the truck and team are safe for travel and return.
- Ability to drive the Mobile Workshop to and from each tour site
- Ensure the Mobile Workshop and all interactive exhibits and simulators are clean and operational
- Set up the double-expandable 18-wheeler and various interactive stations and simulators before tour visits and pack up exhibits at the end of each day.
- Assist with reaching out to educators and employers for tour scheduling and sponsorship
- Speak to students during tour visits and assist them with the interactive components of the trailer (approximately 25-30 kids per class onboard the Mobile Workshop)
- Assist Tour Manager and COED staff with additional tasks as assigned
Minimum Qualifications and Competencies:
- Possession of a valid Class A driver's license with a spotless driving record.
- Must hold a valid DOT Medical Certificate.
- Ability and willingness to travel within the state, ranging from 50% to 75%.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Genuine desire and ability to connect with middle and high school-aged students.
- Demonstrated ability to engage and generate enthusiasm for careers in various skilled trades.
- Clean criminal and motor vehicle background.
- Willingness to undergo additional background checks as required by specific schools or school systems.
- Experience with moving and setting up custom expandable event trailers, strongly preferred
- Experience and comfortable with public speaking
- Strong customer service skills
- Proven experience in troubleshooting mechanical and technology-related issues.
- Ability to collaborate within a team and also perform effectively without direct supervision.
- Proficient in using a tablet and laptop for email, document management in Microsoft Suite, various web-based applications, Electronic Logging Devices (ELDs), etc.
- Demonstrated commitment to a strong safety culture.
Additional Qualifications:
Must have the physical and mental strength and endurance to be able to perform duties, in at times extreme environments, as well as the ability to handle stressors of the position in operational and administrative situations. Required to frequently lift and move 50-100 pounds. Expected to stand, sit, walk, climb, balance, lift, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, bend, talk, hear, see, and operate objects, tools, and controls.
