Heart House is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. The mission of Heart House is to empower refugee, immigrant, and under-resourced children in the Vickery Meadow neighborhood of Dallas by providing enhanced opportunities for educational equity through literacy and social-emotional learning.
Position Summary:
The Program Manager will lead the Reading Homeroom program, providing essential reading intervention services to below-grade-level 1st and 2nd graders, as well as all refugee newcomers in grades K-5. The role involves enrolling students, conducting reading assessments, implementing intervention lesson plans, managing volunteers, coordinating with school staff, and ensuring the effective delivery of reading programs during the school day, occasional Saturday school days, and in summer sessions. Reports to Program Director.
Key Responsibilities:
Program Management
- Oversee daily operations of the Reading Homeroom program.
- Manage a team of 100-200 volunteers, ensuring effective 1-on-1 tutoring.
- Coordinate schedules for in-school and Saturday school programs.
- Manage the Vickery Meadow Summer Reading Academy
Student Engagement and Support
- Identify and enroll students needing reading intervention.
- Pair students with consistent tutors for the duration of the program.
- Monitor and track student progress using Texas A&M Quick Phonics Screener and other tools.
- Address the specific needs of students, including those with 504 plans, dyslexia, or trauma histories.
Volunteer Coordination
- Train and support volunteers from various sources, including student groups from local universities and high schools.
- Ensure volunteers are paired effectively with students and provide necessary materials and guidance.
- Maintain volunteer schedules and manage attendance and tracking.
Communication and Collaboration
- Maintain close relationships with school administration, teachers, and staff.
- Communicate program schedules and updates weekly.
- Coordinate with the school, district refugee services, and other relevant organizations to support newcomer students.
Program Evaluation and Improvement
- Collect and analyze data on student progress and program effectiveness.
- Implement improvements based on feedback and data analysis.
- Maintain detailed records and documentation for program activities and outcomes.
Events and Incentives
- Organize and manage end-of-year parties and other special events.
- Develop and implement reward systems to motivate and encourage students.
- Provide food and incentives for students during school and Saturday programs.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Reading, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
- Experience in reading intervention and literacy programs, preferably with elementary school students and students who are English Language Learners.
- Strong organizational and leadership skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and adapt to changing priorities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft 365, Google Workspace and other relevant software.
- Commitment to serving diverse and underserved student populations.
- Understanding of and commitment to social emotional learning and trauma-informed care.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $48,000.00 - $52,000.00 per year
