Decision-making authority in the absence of Principal
- Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment
- Develop and evaluate educational programs.
- Ensure all academic activities are carried out in accordance with the principal’s expectations and TEA guidelines. Facilitate and support as needed.
- Provide instructional leadership to impact student learning. Lead data-driven instruction, department PLCs, and so forth.
- Encourage and support development of innovative instructional programs.
- Promote the use of technology in the teaching/learning process.
- Train staff on best practices regarding curriculum, instruction, and assessment.
- Work with department heads and team leads for their respective program goals and improvement plans.
- Administer assessments along with the Assessment Coordinator.
- Lead high school students’ academic advising and graduation planning (Secondary Vice Principal)
- Serve as basketball program director (Secondary Vice Principal)

- Promote a positive, caring climate for learning.
- Deal sensitively and fairly with persons from diverse cultural backgrounds.
- Communicate effectively with students and staff.
- Collaborate with Counselor to implement positive behavior interventions (PBIS)
- Ensure that students are adequately supervised during non-instructional periods
- Implement student discipline management procedures that result in positive student behavior.
- Ensure that school rules are uniformly observed and that student discipline is appropriate and equitable.
- Conduct conferences on student and school issues with parents, students, and teachers.
- Perform any other duties as assigned by the principal.
III. School/Organizational Improvement
- Work with principal to develop, maintain, and use information systems, assessment results, survey data and other records to track progress on campus performance objectives and academic excellence indicators.
- Work with principal to implement campus improvement plans with staff, parents, and community members
- Attend professional development to improve skills related to job assignment
IV. Personnel Management
- Serve as second appraiser for the designated teacher appraisal system. Observe assigned teachers’ performance, record observations, and conduct evaluation conferences.
- Perform classroom visitations and demonstrations.
- Assist HR & principal in interviewing, selecting, and orienting new staff. Mentor assigned/ new teachers.
- After discussing with principal, draft and deliver Assist Principal with staff employment letters and contracts.
V. Administration and Fiscal/Facilities Management
- Help plan daily school activities by participating in the development of class schedules, teacher assignments, and extracurricular activity schedules.
- Work with department heads and faculty to compile annual budget requests based on documented program needs.
- Work with Operations manager for requisition supplies, textbooks, and equipment; monitor inventory and records.
VI. School/Community Relations
- Articulate the school’s mission to the community and solicit its support in realizing its mission.
- Demonstrate awareness of school-community needs and initiate activities to meet those needs
- Use appropriate and effective techniques to encourage community and parent involvement
