Position: 2nd Shift Supervisor
Reports To: Director of Production
Hours: M-F 1:15 pm - 10pm, Saturdays as needed
Compensation: $27/m - 35/m + hourly overtime, as necessary
The Mailworks is a woman owned family business specializing in the creation and distribution of direct mail campaigns for a nation-wide customer base. The Mailworks operates 24 hours a day, usually 6 days a week. The team of 90+ employees range from executives, marketing specialists, designers, developers, and production workers.
The Shift Supervisor will be responsible for supervising production employees in a manufacturing and assembly environment. This position plans and assigns work, enforces policies and procedures and communicates issues to upper management. In addition, the input from Shift Supervisors helps to create ongoing improvements in production methods, equipment, operating procedures and working conditions. This is a leadership position that is critical to the overall health of the operation.
Supervisory Responsibilities: Oversee 2nd shift production employees and ensure 3rd shift production employees are set up for their shift.
Duties:
LMA
- Lead, manage, hold people accountable
- Follow and enforce adherence to the Production Process Manual and all supporting SOPs
- Follow and enforce adherence to the HR Process Manual and all supporting SOPs
- Coaching & Mentoring of downline as necessary
- Daily check in with all shift workers
- Oversee the daily performance of downline and document accordingly via the Employee Performance Log
- Attend daily S-C-O-P-E meeting at designated shift time
- Check texts for call outs & phone follow up for return expectations
- Assist Director of Production with building OT schedule to achieve on-time pickup of deliveries
- Report any errors that cost the company time or material on shift
- Attend weekly Operations L10 meeting - 60 minutes
- Enforce company policy - uniforms, text system, break periods, etc.
PROGRESS TRACKING
- Maintain Equipment Downlog in internal company system (JMP)
- Track workflow progress & communicate any issues to team
- Report output at end of shift in an “end of day” email
- Daily shift change stand up with outgoing Supervisor to review workflow status and set action items
- Ensure operators are logging their work in accordance with standard operating procedures
- Manually correct and advance non-reported workflow steps to ensure report accuracy
- Scan jobs as done and verify operators followed all standard operating procedures
- Ensure print and sheeting schedules are being followed
- Account for work needed to complete weekly truck pick up schedules
- Ensure work is flowing through departments and lined up at corresponding stations with all necessary materials to minimize operator downtime and movement
QUALITY ASSURANCE
- Execute operator Sign offs at the start of new jobs with urgency and accuracy
- Ensure overall quality assurance of production team and hold operators accountable
- Ensure Daily QC checks of 20 minimum per shift by production support staff
- In case of poor quality, work with Director of Production to assess & solve
- Ensure operators are completing daily CRO (Clean, Refill. Off) duties as assigned
SHIFT PRODUCTIVITY
- When employees call out, work with Director of Production to reallocate operators in most productive way to achieve goals
- Identify areas for improvement and bring to the weekly Operations L10 meeting for consideration
- Supports Training Program efforts and works with Director of Production to establish operator or company training needs
- Ensure operators are being utilized in the most productive & cost effective way
- Ensure operators have the opportunity to work on various equipment to improve on skill level
- Communicate and help to resolve issues across management teams
- Report any equipment maintenance needs to the Plant Engineer
- Ensure all operators have sent EOD reports at close of shift
WORK STAGING
- Ensure work is proactively staged at machines according to the production plan
- Stage work for organized workflow - the shop floor should be organized at all times
- Ensure trays are tagged by Production Support staff in advance for operator use
- Ensure operators are using the correct product staging materials at all times

Physical Requirements:
- While performing the duties of this job the employee is required to regularly communicate, converse and exchange information with both employees, other supervisors, and management. This position requires the ability to detect and report defective copy and material. The position requires the constant operation of print and mailing preparation machinery. This position requires the employee to constantly position oneself to maintain and improve the workflow of their assigned shift. This includes moving and transporting both prepress and completed mailing copy. This position requires that the employee be able to manipulate and transport objects up to 50 pounds.
