Position Title: Dean of Restorative Practices
Reports to: Principal
FLSA Status: Exempt, Full time, 12 month position
OVERVIEW
The Dean of Restorative Practices (DRP) leads the school’s implementation of positive behavioral interventions and supports (PBIS) to create a safe, inclusive, and joyful environment that promotes campus safety in all ways. The DRP will create, facilitate, and maintain systems for documentation - including regularly reviewing behavioral data to inform school programming and interventions. The DRP is responsible for communicating with appropriate campus, community, and district stakeholders in a timely and responsive manner. The DRP will work in partnership with the Director of Restorative Practices and act as a liaison with Los Angeles Unified School District for high-level disciplinary cases, and may also be expected to interface with outside agencies.
JOB DUTIES (may include, but not limited to the following)

Design, uphold, and manage a campus wide behavior management framework that fosters a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for all students and staff

Collaborate with the site and district leadership to implement and facilitate school culture initiatives based on data, site-specific goals, and Bright Star School’s overall mission and vision for students

Create systems that support utilization of restorative practices and PBIS structures to establish, maintain, and repair relationships between student-to-student; student-to-staff; staff-to families

Connect student and families to internal and external resources for mental, socio-emotional, and physical health
-
Conduct classroom observations to support teachers; monitor the implementation of restorative practices and classroom culture to adjust systems, procedures, and policies to ensure fidelity

Coach teachers in the development of a restorative classroom

Attend all org-wide PD and meetings related to Culture, Coaching and Restorative Practices

Collaborate with co-leaders to analyze disciplinary and behavioral data in order to guide decision making and to identify students in need of support

Complete, communicate and manage compliance-based documentation process for all disciplinary incidents and corresponding intervention in timely manner

Collaborate with Counselors in the SSPT process to support student behavior/academic goals and to provide resources and support to meet student and family needs

Manage tiered system of interventions to support teachers in addressing student behavior

Manage supervision of student arrival, breaks, transitions, lunch, and dismissal

Deep understanding of Restorative Practices and ability to facilitate training to students, staff, and faculty

Deep understanding of equity and the developmental needs of adolescents

Knowledge and understanding of trauma-informed practices; ability to respond to trauma and crisis appropriately

Excellent oral, verbal and written communication skills

Desire to continuously grow own skills through participating in professional development and training opportunities

Ability to develop and build relationships with students and their families

Ability to look at school on a macro level, and implement programs and activities as needed to boost school culture and positive atmosphere

Working knowledge of Google online platforms (including gmail, sheets and docs) plus an aptitude for quickly learning and mastering other online platforms

Ability to create and facilitate relevant, ongoing PD for staff and faculty
QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s Degree
-
3+ years of teaching/student support experience

Fluency in Spanish required

Strong oral and written communication skills including advocacy skills

Ability to connect and build relationships with students and their families

Experience working with youth from historically-underserved communities
-
Experience working in fast-moving environment; crisis management
