Position Title: Director of Volunteer Engagement
Reports to: Vice President of Advancement
Status: Full-time, exempt

Neighborhood House believes that communities and neighborhoods thrive when families have the opportunity to build safe, stable, and rewarding lives. That is why, for 123 years, Neighborhood House has been working alongside families to ensure that they have access to food and housing for their basic needs and education opportunities to help them achieve their dreams and goals.
Last year, 1,200 volunteers contributed nearly 25,000 hours to our organization, providing meaningful support of families in a variety of roles. Of these volunteers, 32% have an ongoing volunteer relationship with Neighborhood House.
Today, Neighborhood House has big dreams and we need help to achieve them. Our organization is ready for the next step in volunteer engagement. We are looking to connect new volunteers to our work, enhance existing volunteers’ contributions & experiences and build relationships with other organizations to address needs in the community. We are also looking to implement a new volunteer model of deep engagement and relationship-building that supports families on their journey to achieving their self-determined goals and aspirations. This position will work closely with the Vice President of Advancement, the Vice President of Programs, and partner with program directors to make this new approach to volunteering a reality.
The Director of Volunteer Engagement will be a member of our Advancement Team. Neighborhood House has a staff of nearly 70 people, 13 of them on the Advancement team. We are a team of dedicated professionals who are passionate about our work and the families and neighborhoods we serve. We like to roll up our sleeves and collaborate in our attempt to solve big problems. We believe that innovation and risk lead to learning and success.

Responsibilities Overview:
- Design and implement a family-centered volunteer program that allows the families we work with to determine their needs to achieve their goals and aspiration.
- Coach and supervise the Volunteer Engagement Coordinator and the In-kind Coordinator, building a successful team where each staff member thrives
- Collaborate effectively across the organization to identify program needs and develop volunteer engagement opportunities that serve the mission
- Promote volunteer opportunities at Neighborhood House to diverse audiences through a variety of communications and events
- Enlarge the circle of volunteers, including individual, group, and corporate volunteers, by conducting outreach and building relationships with diverse groups.
- Manage and evaluate volunteer onboarding and develop ongoing training opportunities that include a wide variety of topics
- Support program staff coordinators of volunteers with their volunteer management duties (on-boarding, supervision, recognition, evaluation) through training, planning sessions, and other support functions.
- Oversee and manage volunteer data in our Volgistics database and provide analytic reports that deepen understanding of volunteer impact
Skills and Experiences of the Ideal Candidate:
- Possesses a high degree of creativity for developing and implementing new approaches to volunteering
- Excited to design, establish, and lead a compelling strategic direction and vision for volunteer programs at Neighborhood House.
- Experience coaching and supervising a team, helping each staff member thrive in their role
- Strong communication skills, including written, verbal, and active listening; ability to work and communicate effectively with people of culturally diverse backgrounds.
- A commitment to a workplace that values and respects differences of race, ethnicity, age, gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, religion, ability, and socio-economic circumstances; willingness to model intercultural competence.
- Project management and organization skills; ability to manage multiple projects with attention to detail
- Enjoys working independently and as part of a team; Ability and willingness to work in a complex, collaborative, consensus-driven environment
- Commitment to continued professional development to strengthen capacity to work through an equity lens for social justice.
- Personal living/lived experience of systemic inequity/oppression.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous supervisor experience preferred.
- Experience with volunteer CRM preferred
- Proficiency in a language other than English, bi-lingual and bi-cultural skills strongly preferred.
- Experience working for a human services non-profit preferred.
Required:
- Must have a valid Minnesota driver’s license and be comfortable driving a cargo van
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds
