Position: Nurse – Valley Middle School
Location: Billerica, MA
Reporting to: Principal
Terms: 212 days, Monday – Friday 7:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Valley Collaborative is a Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education approved public school entity. Valley also provides Massachusetts Department of Developmental Services (DDS), Massachusetts Commission for the Blind (MCB) and Massachusetts Rehabilitation Commission (MRC) programs for Individuals over the age of 18 with special needs. Valley provides a robust pathway for students to continue their careers beyond high school by providing high quality academic, therapeutic, and vocational services to individuals referred by both local school districts and DDS, MCB and MRC. We provide programming so Students and Individuals with special needs can reach their educational and/or occupational goals. By sharing its resources with multiple school districts and social service agencies, Valley programs are able to maintain superior quality at reasonable costs to all those it serves while meeting or exceeding state standards.
Qualifications:
· Graduate of a Nursing Program approved by the Massachusetts Board of Nursing, Registered Nurse License
· A strong commitment to the goals, mission, and philosophy of the organization
· Flexibility to meet identified student and staffing needs
· Self-starter, ability to work independently
Overall Responsibilities:
· The Nurse shall be on-site 7.5 hours per day and any additional hours necessary to meet requirements for the provision of health and personal care services.
· Administers medications and treatments as necessary in the school setting.
· Documents First Aid and illness care provided to students.
· Completes accident reports, and maintains an accurate log of health office visits.
· Collaborates with lead nurse to recommend exclusion and monitor readmission to school for students with infectious or communicable diseases.
· Maintains medical equipment and supplies in the health office, as well as first aid kits located in the school building and transportation vehicles.
· Provides student personal care teaching, assistance, and supervision.
· Collaborates with school personnel to create the best learning environment regardless of student’s health care needs.
· Collaborates with parents and lead nurse to develop and implement individual health care plans for students.
· Provides emergency care in cases of injury or sudden illness.
· Demonstrates knowledge of, and the ability to administer medications appropriately, in keeping with school policy on administration of medication in school.
· Identifies health and safety hazards in the classrooms, school building and advises teachers and or
· Principal.
· All other duties as assigned by Principal or Lead Nurse.

Physical Demands:
· Constant standing or walking
· Requires ability to lift up to 50 pounds
· Bends, reaches, lifts, carries, twists, pushes, pulls, and handles equipment when performing duties Able to reach and operate equipment and systems safely and effectively
