Makes Staff Assignments
Shift hand-off with off-going Charge RN
Counts Narcotics (Both shifts)
Checks crash carts
Manages disposition of expirations within ER/Crash carts etc.
Checks negative pressure rooms
Checks equipment and ensures it is present and in proper working order
Manage discharge call backs-For five (5) patients from prior day (Day Shift)
Discharge rounding on five (5) patients
Review cultures and call/treat as advised
Charge Nurse Report-Communicates any issues for Director follow-up
Environmental Assessment-Ensure rooms stocked, equipment set up and in working order, IV pumps charged/available.
Manages transfers In/Out
Manage employees in relation to job accountabilities
Adjust staffing related to department volume and need (call-outs, flexing)
Ensure SIM reports are completed by appropriate staff within 24 hours of event. For example:
- Falls
- Skin Integrity issues
- Patient behavior issues
- Against Medical Advise (AMA)
Ensure proper SEPSIS, STROKE, STEMI care/documentation is completed by appropriate staff
Psych patient care/documentation completed, psych checklist initiated and sitters managed
Moderate Sedation-
- Ensure proper documentation (Consent, time out, PI tool completion)
Manage patient flow within the department
