Description:
Speech and Language Therapists shall perform such duties and responsibilities associated with the Speech and Language Therapist profession, those outlined in District 112 policies, and as are required by the Illinois School Code.
Description:
A. Planning and Preparation
1. Demonstrates knowledge and skill in providing speech therapy
2. Establishes goals for the therapy program appropriate to the setting and students served
3. Demonstrates knowledge of the district, state, and federal regulations and guidelines
4. Demonstrates knowledge of resources, both within and beyond the school and district
5. Plans the therapy program, integrated with the regular school program, to meet the
needs of individual students
6. Prepares for and directly participating in the development and ongoing review of each of their student’s
individualized education plans (IEPs)
B. Classroom/Therapeutic Environment
1. Establishes rapport with the students
2. Organizes time effectively
3. Establishes standards of conduct in the treatment center
4. Organizes physical space for testing of students and providing therapy
C. Instruction
1. Establishes and maintaining clear procedures for referrals
2. Responds to referrals, evaluating student needs
3. Utilizes culturally sensitive evaluation procedures
4. Able to evaluate students in English
5. Assesses student growth and present levels of performance utilizing a variety of
evidence-based measures
6. Understands the differences in language development for students
7. Develops and implementing treatment plans to maximize students’ success
8. Communicates with families
9. Collects information; writing reports
10.Demonstrates flexibility and responsiveness
11.Provides direct receptive and expressive language instruction in both general education and special education
settings to students in wholeclass, small group,and individual settings

4. Shows professionalism, including integrity, advocacy, and maintaining confidentiality

of receptive and expressive language
7. Determines both initial and continuing eligibility for speech and languages services for students
using researchbased assessments
8. Utilizes the District’s electronic IEP database when preparing for and updating each of
their student’s individualized education plans (IEPs)
9. Collaborates with parents, private therapists, and other agencies to gain and share information
10.Accurately completes all paperwork associated with the position of Speech and Language Therapist
11.Provides leadership with respect to assistive technology for students and staff
12.Resolves conflict through effective problemsolving to constructively address student, staff, and parent concerns
E. Qualifications:
- Valid Illinois teaching license with proper endorsement(s)
- Ability to effectively collaborate
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Skilled in use of instructional technology
Working Conditions:
Salary: Substitute Rates in effect for 2024-25 school year, days 1-10 at $150/day, 11-29 consecutive days in the same position at $175/day, and for 30 consecutive days in the same position, $275/day.
