The Senior Director of Perioperative Services is a key leadership position responsible for overseeing all aspects of perioperative care, including surgical services, preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative care. This role requires a strategic leader with a strong clinical background, proven management skills, and the ability to drive operational excellence and quality improvement in perioperative services.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide visionary leadership and strategic direction for perioperative services, aligning with organizational goals and patient care standards.
- Develop and implement operational plans to enhance the efficiency, quality, and growth of perioperative services.
- Collaborate with senior leadership, surgeons, and clinical staff to ensure integrated, patient-centered care delivery.
- Oversee the daily operations of all perioperative units, including the operating room (OR), preoperative, and postoperative areas.
- Ensure efficient resource utilization, including staffing, equipment, and supplies, to meet patient care needs.
- Implement and monitor compliance with policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Drive quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient outcomes, safety, and satisfaction in perioperative services.
- Analyze performance metrics and develop action plans to address gaps in care delivery and operational performance.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement, encouraging staff participation in quality and safety programs.
- Develop and manage the budget for perioperative services, ensuring fiscal responsibility and alignment with organizational financial goals.
- Monitor financial performance, including revenue, expenses, and cost-saving opportunities.
- Implement strategies to optimize operational efficiency and financial sustainability.
- Lead, mentor, and develop a diverse team of perioperative professionals, including nurses, surgical technicians, and support staff.
- Foster a positive and collaborative work environment, promoting professional growth and high levels of staff engagement.
- Oversee staffing models, recruitment, retention, and performance evaluation processes.
- Ensure the highest standards of patient care, safety, and satisfaction throughout the perioperative continuum.
- Develop and implement patient care protocols and best practices in collaboration with clinical leaders and surgeons.
- Address patient care concerns and complaints, implementing corrective actions as necessary.
- Oversee the adoption and integration of new surgical technologies and innovations to enhance care delivery.
- Stay current with advances in perioperative care, ensuring the facility remains at the forefront of surgical excellence.
- Evaluate and recommend new equipment and technologies to support surgical services.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as accrediting bodies such as The Joint Commission.
- Prepare for and participate in accreditation surveys and inspections, addressing any identified deficiencies.
- Build and maintain effective relationships with surgeons, anesthesia providers, and other healthcare professionals.
- Facilitate communication and coordination between perioperative services and other departments.
- Represent perioperative services in organizational committees, meetings, and initiatives.
Requirements:
- Master’s degree in Nursing required.
- Current and valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in NY required.
- Minimum of 5 years of leadership experience in perioperative services or surgical services.
- Strong leadership and management skills with the ability to inspire and motivate teams.
- Excellent strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across disciplines.
- Proficiency in healthcare information systems and perioperative technologies.
- In-depth understanding of perioperative care, surgical procedures, and patient safety principles.
- Knowledge of healthcare regulations, accreditation standards, and best practices in perioperative services.
Please note- The annual base salary range is $160k to $200k. Actual compensation offered to the successful candidate may vary from posted hiring range based upon geographic location, work experience, education, and/or skill level, among other things. Details about eligibility for bonus compensation (if applicable) will be finalized at the time of offer.
