The University of Memphis Department of Chemistry invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Teaching.
Responsibilities include: Teaching lecture courses, supervising graduate student teaching in laboratory courses, and participating in outreach and recruiting activities. The expected courses to be taught could include but are not limited to: Chemistry of Materials, General Chemistry I & II, General Organic Chemistry I & II, Foundations of Analytical Chemistry, or Medicinal Chemistry. Other responsibilities of the undergraduate instructional programs include coordinating laboratory instruction and supervising graduate teaching assistants for the laboratory courses. The laboratory courses include Chemistry of Materials, General Chemistry I & II, General Organic Chemistry I & II, and Foundations of Analytical Chemistry.
Screening of applicants will begin on May 1, 2024 and may continue until the position is filled. The proposed start date is August 19, 2024.
Minimum Position Qualifications
Applicants must have either a Ph.D. in Chemistry, or a minimum of a Master’s Degree in Chemistry, or a closely related field with at least 18 graduate hours in Chemistry.
Special Conditions
The department is especially interested in candidates who have Chemical Education Research expertise and capable of teaching in undergraduate chemistry divisions such as, but not limited to, Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, or Organic Chemistry.
The instructor will be responsible for teaching up to three lecture courses and supervising two laboratory courses each semester.
