Pathways, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization based in Lynn, is one of the premier adult education programs on the North Shore. For over 40 years Pathways has been providing a supportive educational environment for adult learners by: (1) offering opportunities for adult learners to attain their HiSET/GED credential and non-native English speakers to learn and improve their English language skills; (2) encouraging students/graduates to explore a variety of career pathways available in the regional labor market; (3) helping students/graduates develop employment, career and/or college readiness skills; and (4) facilitating transitions to postsecondary education, training, and employment.
Responsibilities - In consultation with Pathways, Inc. Executive Director, the Director of Education is responsible for the following work areas:
Curriculum Development - Oversee the ongoing creation, review, and revision of Pathways research-based, standards-based, student-centered curriculum for ESOL and ABE
- Stay current with Federal and State curriculum initiatives, research findings, and best practices through participation in training, professional development, professional conferences, etc.
- Research and acquire evidence-based, high-interest curriculum texts and materials
Supervision of Instructors - Responsible for the supervision of Teachers and Curriculum and Testing Coordinators
- Make personnel recommendations to the ED (i.e. hire new teachers)
- Provide orientation and guidance to new teachers
- Provide teachers with regular supervision regarding curriculum, lesson planning, research-based teaching practices, student-centered teaching practices, digital literacy, and assessment
- Implement DESE initiatives with teachers
- Conduct classroom observations and provide feedback to all teachers
- Conduct performance evaluations
Academic Program Oversight - Oversee Pathways' day-to-day academic operations
- Plan and facilitate monthly curriculum meetings and periodic research-based professional development activities focusing on team-building, curriculum initiatives, best practices, cultural awareness, and digital literacy
- Guide individual teachers through professional development plans and career advancement opportunities
- Provide opportunities for teachers to observe and collaborate, and to develop areas of deep expertise
- Coordinate with teachers to plan and cover absences
Other - As a member of the senior staff, work closely with the Senior Management team on strategy and projects
- Some evening hours are required
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Masters Degree in Education
- Experience developing curriculum for English Language Learners and low-income adult learners
- Bilingual in Spanish/English preferred
- Proficiency in Google suite of computer programs
- Experience working in a non-profit educational setting
