JOB TITLE: Residency Director
STATUS: Full Time
LEVEL: Exempt
REPORT TO: Vice President and Dean for Academic Affairs
Administrative Allowance $15,000
Under the direction of the Vice President and Dean for Academic Affairs, the Residency Director is responsible for the development, accreditation, and administration of all residency programs, both internal and external. ICO currently offers 16 residency programs with 30 resident positions offered each year.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

The residency director is responsible for program development and curriculum, accreditation, resident recruitment, and program administration.
PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT AND CURRICULUM
-
Reviews all proposals for new programs and determines viability

Develops mission, goals and objectives for each program
-
Collaborates with program coordinators to develop appropriate curriculum
-
Develops appropriate outcome measures for each program
ACCREDITATION
-
Assists program coordinators with preparation of ACOE self-study reports
-
Leads residency team during accreditation site visits
-
Ensures resolution of all program recommendations
-
Oversees annual report preparation and submission
-
Regularly monitors accreditation standards to assure program compliance
RESIDENT RECRUITMENT AND EMPLOYMENT
-
Participates in national resident recruitment events
-
Offers virtual ICO residency information session for students at all ASCO institutions.

Participates in resident interview days, as needed by program coordinators
-
Develops content for and maintains websites related to residency program
-
Actively maintains residency Instagram account
-
Facilitates communication between residency candidates and program coordinators
-
Oversees annual residency match
-
Assists Human Resources with resident employment process
-
Assists IEI Administration with resident credentialing process
PROGRAM ADMINISTRATION
-
Serves as advocate for residents and residency programs.
-
Conducts annual program review to monitor outcomes and develop improvement plans
-
Recommends appropriate program additions/deletions to the Dean
-
Develops and manages residency program budget
-
Plans annual orientation program for internal residents
-
Organizes and hosts residency welcome reception and end of year dinner
-
Provides feedback to Associate Dean for Faculty regarding performance of internal program coordinators

Facilitates resident travel reimbursement
-
Assists development office with program fund raising
-
Oversees program evaluation process via Meditrek
-
Develops weekly resident conference schedule
-
Coordinates Friday Urgent Care and Complex Case reviews with Chief of Urgent Care Plans and facilitates residents’ teaching workshop

Verifies Residency completion for various insurance plans
-
Coordinates Grand Rounds dates with Assoc. Dean for Faculty and serves as moderator for resident Grand Rounds programs
-
Develops Residents’ Day program with office of Continuing Education.

Serves as ICO representative to ASCO Residency Educators’ SIG
-
Facilitates dissemination of information regarding residency education, programs, application process and match to ICO students

Tracks ICO student acceptance into residency programs

Coordinates selection of O’Brien Award recipient
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
-
Doctor of Optometry licensed to practice in Illinois
-
Optometric Residency highly preferred
-
Successful credentialing through IEI Professional Standards Board
-
ICO faculty appointment at Associate Professor or Professor (strongly preferred)
-
In-depth knowledge of ACOE residency standards of accreditation
-
Ability to supervise residency program coordinators
-
Ability to develop relationships with external residency providers

Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
