This position is responsible for providing advanced specialty care in Occupational Therapy. This position performs direct patient care, supervisory, educational and administrative functions and is responsible for marketing, program development and program implementation.

Responsibilities:
A Day in the Life of an Occupational Therapist II at MyMichigan Health:

(60%) Evaluates and provides therapy to patients on a daily basis. Prepares required written documentation regarding patient's response to therapy. Provides education to patient/family based on their information needs and in a manner understandable to them. Participates in physician/team conferences. Participates in the development of and on-going updating of interdisciplinary team reports.
- (40%) Additional Responsibilities: Is actively involved in some of the following activities: Develops specialty programs, including protocols and marketing. Participates in and/or provides in-service education to meet ongoing knowledge needs of self and others, including physicians, staff members and community members. Assists manager or supervisor with administrative duties as needed, and provide leadership in their absence. Teaches in clinical and/or academic setting. Mentors employees within own discipline. Serves as Clinical Instructor for students. Participate in shared governance, focus groups, and/or other administrative or educational teams. Keep current with area(s) of expertise so that clinical care reflects best practices. Provides supervision for Occupational Therapist Assistants, Home Health Aides, and students per affiliate and regulatory standards.
Certifications and Licensures:
- OTR: Occupational Therapist

Required Education:
- Bachelors Degree
- Equivalent Experience: Clinical experience in the field of occupational therapy as normally acquired through 5 years of experience working in a medical center environment or similar setting required.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:
- Teaches in clinical and/or academic setting.
- Mentors employees within own discipline.
- Serves as Clinical Instructor for students.
- Assumes leadership role in the absence of manager.
- Recommends adaptive/supportive equipment based on assessment; contacts appropriate representative and/or supplier to place order and assists in securing equipment for patient.
- Documents the patient/family/caregiver response to treatment and changes in patient condition per affiliate documentation policies and/or standards and in compliance with regulatory agencies.
- Completes daily documentation necessary for billing procedures per affiliate policy and in compliance with regulatory agencies
- Provides treatment intervention and demonstrates competence to facilitate or restore optimal functioning specific to therapist’s patient care area.
- Educates patient/family/caregiver in home education program using relevant and effective teaching methods.
- Demonstrates effective oral and written communication with all internal and external customers to maximize quality of patient care including coordination with interdisciplinary team members.
- Promotes education and development among staff, students, and other health care providers using relevant and effective teaching methods. Promotes process improvement. Assists with program development, Participates in team conferences and interdisciplinary meetings as appropriate.
- Promotes occupational therapy within MidMichigan Health and service area, participating in and providing community education. Function as case manager for assigned cases.

- Maintains confidentiality of patient and affiliate information in accordance with MidMichigan Health and affiliate policies and procedures.

Equivalent Experience and Other Comments (Education):
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING AND SKILLS:

Clinical experience in the field of occupational therapy as normally acquired through 5 years of experience working in a medical center environment or similar setting required.

Interpersonal skills needed to communicate effectively with individuals and groups and interact with people at all levels to communicate ideas and concepts in a clear and understandable manner.
- Mandatory Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) training must be completed annually according to the Exposure Control Plan
- AOTA and MOTA memberships preferred for Occupational Therapists.
- Three years of clinical experience at a MyMichigan Medical Center - Midland Rehabilitation Services preferred.
