Job Title: Program Advocate
Reports to: Program Manager
Status: Full-time 40 hours, Non-Exempt, must be able to work Monday thru Friday depending on week. Occasional Weekend days, as needed.
Overview: Program Advocates will play a crucial role in providing comprehensive case management services to homeless families, guiding them on their journey toward stability and self-sufficiency. They will work closely with families to assess their needs, develop individualized service plans, and connect them with resources and support to overcome barriers to housing.
Responsibilities:
- Client Assessment and Service Planning:
- Conduct comprehensive assessments of families experiencing homelessness to identify their strengths, needs, and goals.
- Collaborate with families to develop individualized service plans that address their immediate needs and long-term goals.
- Utilize a strengths-based approach to empower families and build on their existing resources and support networks.
- Housing Support and Advocacy:
- Assist families in navigating the housing system, including accessing emergency shelter, transitional housing, and permanent housing options.
- Advocate on behalf of families to access affordable housing, rental assistance programs, and other housing resources.
- Provide guidance and support to families in securing and maintaining stable housing, including landlord mediation and lease negotiations.
- Income and Employment Assistance:
- Conduct assessments of families' employment and income needs and develop strategies to increase their financial stability.
- Assist families in accessing employment services, job training programs, education opportunities, and public benefits.
- Provide support with resume writing, job search strategies, interview preparation, and career development.
- Life Skills and Parenting Support:
- Offer life skills training and workshops on topics such as budgeting, nutrition, time management, and conflict resolution.
- Provide parenting support and education to help families strengthen parent-child relationships and promote positive parenting practices.
- Connect families with community resources and programs for childcare, early childhood education, and family enrichment activities.
- Crisis Intervention and Support:
- Provide crisis intervention and emotional support to families in times of crisis or distress.
- Develop safety plans and provide referrals to emergency services, mental health resources, and domestic violence shelters as needed.
- Foster a supportive and empathetic environment where families feel heard, respected, and valued.
- Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date client records, including assessments, service plans, progress notes, and outcomes.
- Document all client interactions, services provided, and referrals made in accordance with agency policies and procedures.
- Generate reports and data for program evaluation, grant reporting, and quality assurance purposes.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, Human Services, or related field.
- Previous experience working with homeless populations or in housing services, case management, or social services.
- Strong understanding of trauma-informed care, crisis intervention, and family systems theory.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and conflict resolution skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and case management software.
- Compassion, empathy, and cultural sensitivity in working with diverse populations.
