Job Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Clinical Counselor to join our team. As a Clinical SUD Counselor, you will provide therapeutic support and counseling services to individuals in need of SUD and Co-occurring disorder treatment services. Your role will involve conducting assessments, developing treatment plans, and implementing evidence-based interventions to promote a healthy lifestyle and well-being.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
· Assessing the counseling needs of the clients;
· Performassessments of clients using the ASI or other standardized clinical tools
· Diagnose clients for substance use disorder using the DSM-5;
· Determine the appropriate level of care according to ASAM Criteria
· Obtaining previous records that are relevant to the current treatment episode
· Develop individualized treatment plans based on assessment findings
· Provide clinical counseling and therapy sessions to clients using various therapeutic modalities such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing, and behavioral therapy
· Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure coordinated care for clients
Collect and maintain accurate client data and records in compliance with HIPAA regulations
· Be current with the latest research and best practices in the field of clinical SUD counseling
· Collaborate with the client to develop a written treatment plan that includes goals and measurable objectives and is client-centered, and recovery-oriented
· The director of substance abuse counseling shall develop, monitor, and provide the client and treatment team with a written schedule to update each client treatment plan(s) to ensure clients' needs are met
· Provide substance abuse counseling services specified in the client's treatment plan
· Monitorclients progress throughout the treatment duration and adjust the level of care following the ASAM Criteria to determine the need for continued services, transfer, or discharge/transfer
· Reviewing and, where necessary, revising the client treatment plan to address ongoing problems;
· Contact, case consultation if necessary, and coordination with referral sources (for example, mental health treatment providers, criminal justice agencies, schools, employers, DCPP);
OTHER FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
· Credentialed LCADC or a CADC or another, licensed health professional doing work of an alcohol or drug counseling nature within their scope of practice
· CADC shall work under the supervision of an LCADC, or another health professional, licensed to supervise work of an alcohol or drug counseling nature within their scope of practice
o A CADC cannot diagnose substance abuse without the signature approval of an LCADC or other clinical supervisors approved to do so.
· Substance abuse counseling staff without LCADC or CADC status or who are not other health professionals licensed to do work of an alcohol or drug counseling nature within their scope of practice shall function as counselor-interns and shall:
o Be enrolled in the course of study leading to CADC or LCADC status or another health professional license that includes work of an alcohol and drug counseling nature within its scope of practice, without regard to changes in employment, with progress towards certification or licensing on file, reviewed by the facility at least semiannually and documented; and to be trained, evaluated, and receive continuing formal clinical supervision by the director of substance abuse counseling or designee, according to the clinical supervision rules of the State, health professional licensing board for the course of study in which they are enrolled: the Board of Marriage and Family Therapy Examiners (BMFTE) for licensed marriage and family therapists; the BMFTE's Professional Counselor Examiners Committee for licensed professional counselors; the BMFTE's Alcohol and Drug Counselor Committee for LCADC and CADC; the State Board of Psychological Examiners for licensed psychologists; and the State Board of Social Work Examiners for licensed clinical social workers.
· Counseling staff employed in an outpatient treatment facility after June 1, 2009, shall have three years from the date of employment to obtain LCADC or CADC status or another health professional license that includes work of an alcohol or drug counseling nature within its scope of practice.
· Only staff possessing the appropriate clinical background and educational qualifications from the appropriate clinical discipline may diagnose, assess, and treat clients with co-occurring disorders.
COMPETENCIES - KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS
· Must have a thorough knowledge of the 12-Core Functions of Counseling for Alcohol and Drug use disorders, Step Programs, AA, NA, and the bio-psycho-social model of substance use and co-occurring disorders.
· Must be able to work independently and complete assignments without supervision.
· Good interpersonal skills are required to maintain a professional demeanor and perform duties effectively in stressful situations /emergencies.
· Must be able to maintain objectivity and deal diplomatically with clients and family members.
SPECIAL EQUIPMENT, SKILLS, OR OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Excellent communication skills. Ability to operate telephones, fax, and copier. Computer skills required to use agency IT systems effectively, including but not limited to the agency clinical record and Microsoft Office, including Word and Outlook. Must be able to work under required deadlines and schedules while being flexible to special requests and projects. The employee must possess a valid driver's license and be able to drive an agency-owned vehicle.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND HAZARDS: Risk of exposure to infectious disease. May become involved in crisis management.
WORK CONTACT GROUP: All internal management, staff, programs, and the general public.
SPECIAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Must be able to walk, lift, push, pull and bend. Hearing and visual acuity are necessary; corrective devices are acceptable. Must be able to work under required deadline schedules while being flexible to special requests and projects. Must be able to travel from location to location.
