The Diesel Mechanic at Nexus Disposal is responsible for safely operating, repairing, rebuilding, and performing mechanical and electrical maintenance on the company's fleet of heavy-duty diesel trucks and equipment. This role is crucial in ensuring the proper performance and safety of our vehicles and equipment.
Key Responsibilities

Maintain and repair heavy diesel, CNG, gas, and electrically operated equipment and vehicles.

Evaluate mechanical and electrical problems using diagnostic equipment.

Perform routine vehicle maintenance and preventive care.

Check and repair electrical and cooling systems, as well as install heaters and similar accessories.

Conduct road tests on vehicles to troubleshoot problems and ensure proper and safe completion of repairs.

Perform road calls to make repairs on trucks that break down while on collection routes.

Weld and perform minor bodywork as needed.

Read and interpret VCRs (vehicle condition reports) and repair orders, communicating with supervisors and drivers for clarification of problems.

Plan and schedule repairs and procure all necessary parts for successful completion.

Maintain accurate and updated preventive maintenance records.

Assist with the training of maintenance technicians.

Operate tools, equipment, and machinery following company safety procedures.

Maintain a clean and safe work area in compliance with company and OSHA standards, ensuring shop equipment and tools are in safe operating condition.

Correct unsafe conditions in the work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to the supervisor immediately.
Requirements:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) desired but not required.

Valid driver's license.

Minimum of one (1) year experience as a diesel mechanic.

Must meet relevant criteria for safety-sensitive functions according to company standards.

Must have own tools appropriate for the position.

Working Conditions:

Frequently exposed to loud noise, humidity, hot and cold weather conditions, moving mechanical parts, vibration, toxic and caustic chemicals, fumes, and airborne particles.
